By Kernkate on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 - 09:02 am:

due to snow we are getting. Its the first major snowstorm of this winter we are expecting 4-7 inches of the white stuff. But then turning to sleet and freezing rain!
We have been really lucky here we usually have tons of snow by now.
So the kiddos will be able to help me get the tree down today:)
Maybe the kids will finally get to go sleigh riding.

By Colette on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 - 09:11 am:

I think we will have either a snow day or a delayed opening tomorrow. The snow wasn't supposed to start down here til tonight and it's snowing now. Enjoy your snow day!

By Amecmom on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 - 09:21 am:

Here too! And I am fuming! There was nothing outside when I got up this morning. I didn't even think to check for closings. I got my son up and dressed for pre school and was on schedule with my daughter's feeding to have her fed and sleeping by the time I got back from dropping him off.

Then I saw it beginning to snow and out of curiosity I checked the school closings. Sure enough our district is closed!

When I worked in the NYC schools, we never closed! Oh well ...

We still have school today but I suspect a snow day tomorrow.

By Cat on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 - 09:27 am:

Today is our first day back, and I'm VERY surprised it's not delayed at least. Usually the schools here close or delay with just the forecast of snow. It's usually not bad, but they don't salt here, just sand. They usually end up waiting for the sun to come up and melt what's on the roads. Heck, growing up in Michigan we'd have to get about a foot of snow before they'd close! lol Every place is different.

By Mrse on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 - 09:38 am:

Snow? We only had a few flakes come down the other day, it did not even hit the ground, and that was it, here in my part of vancouver island, the grass is still green, well really frosty other than that nothing.

By Trina~moderator on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 - 10:45 am:

Our district just announced an early release (1:00) for today. Good thing I'm home and was keeping an eye out for announcements. When they do this it creates quite a predicament for working parents.

I just got back from taking Randy to the school that's three blocks away, and the two kindergartners to their school which is 6.5 miles round trip. It took me 35 minutes!!! There are SO many parents out there and you couldn't go over about 25mph because of the roads. I feel for the cars that don't have 4wd. I turned mine on after the first corner (when I slid all over the place). And it's still snowing. :( I asked my one daycare mom who teaches at Robin's school if they ever do early release here (they haven't in the 2 1/2 years we've been here). She said she's NEVER heard of them doing it. Kindergarten pickup and getting Randy after school will be fun. NOT! Maybe I can call a friend to pick up Randy. She'll be there anyway. :)

By Happynerdmom on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 - 11:06 am:

Our forecast is just RAIN, RAIN, RAIN! I already had water in my basement from the 15 inches of snow that melted all at once. The ground is SATURATED. We have a flood watch here. Everything is SO muddy!! We just had our carpets cleaned not long ago, and I'm having a hard time keeping the dog's paws clean. GRRR!!

By My2cuties on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 - 11:20 am:

I am wondering if we are ever going to get alot of snow, a while back we had maybe an inch..not even enough to play in..

Now the weather is in the upper 50's, this is ridiculous here it is January and we have our Air on. The other day I had to dig through clothes and find a short sleeved shirt for dd to wear. I can't believe it. I miss the snow. :(

By Colette on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 - 11:20 am:

I cannot believe how much it changed in 30 minutes, we went from flurries that were sticking to steady, heavy, snow. I bet, once again, they are wrong on the amounts we get.

By Brandy on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 - 11:22 am:

kids are getting out 2 hours early like Trina said good thing i was home already ...

By Mara on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 - 12:45 pm:

We are getting flooded here too. We had 22 inches of snow last week and it has already melted and it is raining! A big muddy mess!!

By Debbie on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 - 01:11 pm:

We are suppose to get 12 inches by tomorrow!! We had about 2-3 inches on the ground when we got up and it has been snowing all day. Still, no snow day, and no early release yet either!! The roads were very slippery when I went to pick up my youngest from preschool at 11am. I can just imagine what it is going to be like by 3pm. Why oh why couldn't it snow like this last week when everyone was off!!!

By Bea on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 - 01:17 pm:

I hope we can drive to Pittsburgh friday without running into one of these fronts.

By Karen~moderator on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 - 02:04 pm:

We Want Pics!!!!!!!!!!

By Cat on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 - 02:06 pm:

I just got back from my kindergarten run :) and the road are worse now than they were this morning. They're going to be terrible this afternoon! Especially when the sun goes down around 4:50. The boys are supposed to have karate from 5-6. I'm willing to bet we'll be getting a call from the instructor around 4 saying it's canceled. Funny, the forecast online now says about 1" expected today. We're already passed that!

By Amecmom on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 - 04:35 pm:

Well if the weather report is accurate, it looks like we'l be closed all week. Heavy snow and ice tonight into tomorrow. 6 to 8 inches accumulation. Snow and ice on Friday.

We had to cut our trip to Tahoe short by a day this past weekend because of snow. After two storms dumped six feet on us, we thought it was better to leave rather than wait to see what the next storm was going to bring. It is nice to be able to visit the snow in short spurts...I don't envy those of you who have to deal with it all the time! :)

By Kernkate on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 - 04:46 pm:

Ame we are getting the same as you. There is a lull in the snow now ,but its suppose to be very heavy tonight then ice all day tomorrow:(
Karen we will get pics first thing in the a.m.

By Kernkate on Thursday, January 6, 2005 - 07:10 am:

School is closed again today we must have got 10 inches of snow but now it has turned over to sleet, and then its suppose to change over to all rain this afternoon. What a mess it will be.
I am going to try and get some pics.

By Sue3 on Thursday, January 6, 2005 - 07:43 am:

Our schools are closed today also. They said over 216 are closed ! I was going to clean all day ,oh well, I guess I will put it off until
tomorrow.

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, January 6, 2005 - 07:43 am:

Wow! What a mess, Kathy! We have about 5-6 inches now and it's still coming down. My kids have a 2-hour delay. I'm going to get them up at 8:00, because I'm sure they will want to see Jasmine playing in the snow before they go to school around 10. This is Jasmine's first big snow, with us! She already was kind of a nut case, when I just had her outside to go potty!

By Conni on Thursday, January 6, 2005 - 10:11 am:

We got a little snow flurry last night and this morning. But still had snow. I *wish* we would get a bunch of snow and get snowed in for a day or two!!

By Karen~moderator on Thursday, January 6, 2005 - 10:15 am:

Conni, so do I, but that's a bit unlikely where I live!

By Eve on Thursday, January 6, 2005 - 10:18 am:

No school today here!:)

By Debbie on Thursday, January 6, 2005 - 11:39 am:

No school here either. We had about 6 inches on the ground by bedtime and it snowed another 6 inches last night. We are still getting snow. We should have another 1-2 inches today before it stops this afternoon. This is the biggest snow that we have had since we got here. We have a big 3 tier deck in the backyard. The snow is up past that. You can't even see the deck. My boys are just thrilled!! I will take some pictures when we go out to play this afternoon.

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, January 6, 2005 - 09:01 pm:

My kids, 15 and 12, put on snowpants, boots, jackets, hats and mittens to go out and play in the snow! LOL! They kept the dog occupied outside for 1/2 hour to 45 minutes. Usually the dog can't handle being outside without me, but she really likes the snow! I didn't really want to stand outside and not do much. It's not really that warm. Kids and the dog had a blast! I guess as long as they were throwing Jasmine's ball, it didn't matter if I was out there or not.

By Brandy on Thursday, January 6, 2005 - 09:59 pm:

Well my boys had the whole day off to because of ice and flooding some of my trees have lost some big branches i'm glad i parked where i did Tuesday night or my avalanche would of gotten smooshed ~!

By Brandy on Friday, January 7, 2005 - 06:31 am:

They have the day off again today someone help me lol just kidding they are going to be working on their room today = ) yay for them i'm sure they'd much rather have school ha ha ha = ) i think the reason it was cancelled is because of all the downed trees they have my road blocked off at one end.And the street over blocked off all the way...

By Trina~moderator on Friday, January 7, 2005 - 06:47 am:

We had no school yesterday. Today there is a 1 hr. delay. Hopefully the roads will be better by then.

By Kernkate on Friday, January 7, 2005 - 07:51 am:

2 hour delay here today, and I am guessing they will be closing. Rural areas are still bad around us. DS was up all night, I think he is coming down with the stomach bug so he will not be going to school 3 days off:( Brandy my DS did his whole room yesterday. So nice and clean.
