Taking down the Christmas tree (sniff, sniff)

Kids are doing homework. There is music in the stereo and I'm taking down the Christmas tree. I'm always glad to have the tree gone, but think taking it apart is so sad! I like the pretty lights and I'm always sad to see them go. Oh, and we missed a few ornaments! One was the nativity ornament, the lion and the lamb ornament and a little red schoolhouse. boohoo. I know we were missing the nativity one and I should have just dug through the boxes one more time. Shoot. Oh well. There's always next year.

I tossed mine the Monday after Christmas. It would have been out the door Sunday but we had company.

I need to take mine down as well, probably tomorrow. :)

After Christmas is always such a let down. I am always sad to see all the ornaments and lights taken down at home, and around town.

We can look forward to next year though :)

It's funny that you brought this up because as I was doing the dinner dishes, I was thinking how I missed my Christmas decorations. We always have ours down my New Year's Day. Just an old superstition that I don't really believe in, but, practice it anyway.

In a way, I am glad to have everything back in order, though.

Well, the tree is outside and the needles vacuumed up, but I still have a few more ornaments to box up and then get back up in the attic. I was running out of evening and energy. Will get it finished tomorrow. I'm glad to have the order back. It's just a bunch of work getting it there. I worked too many hours last week to have gotten it done and then with Emily getting sick and having surgery, there was even less time to have done it.

Hi Dawn.I haven't talked to you much thru the Christmas season.I wound up getting sick AGAIN and this time it was a very serious case of strep throat.I was in the er for 3 or more hours last Thurs night.I'm finally over the hard part, but still have a little.Sorry to hear about your daughter. Is she still in the hospital? Did everything work out ok? I still have both my tree's up.I usually don't take them down anyway till the first week, and since I've been sick, they will probably be around a few more days. But,I"m like you,I really miss the beautiful lights.

My dh took down the tree the Monday after Christmas while I was at work. I sort of had a meltdown about it though. I have been working fulltime since he was laid off. And he's been taking care of the household stuff. He took down the tree without mentioning it and I just so felt like I'd lost my position at home. I was glad he took it down but that's my domain and I know it's silly but I felt like I should have been consulted. I'll be so glad when he finds a job and I can resume my role as mommy. DH is a great guy and has done alot around the house but not the way mommy does it.
I'm sorry about the little vent. This may not have been the right place but I feel better now anyway.

Wanda, I'm so sorry you have been sick. Strep throat can be nasty! I'm glad you are on the mend.

Imamommyx4, I'm sorry you weren't consulted about the tree. When I work a lot of hours, I hate feeling so out of control of the daily runnings of the house! It probably would have been nice if he could have mentioned it.

On the other hand, I can't imagine my DH taking the tree down! I don't think I would trust him with the ornaments. Of course, who is the one who broke one this year? Me! LOL! The ornament was still on the end table and I bopped it with the lights when I was taking them down. Whoops! Dh would take the tree outside, if he had been there, but they aren't that heavy and I had one of the kids help me get it outside.

I did mine yesterday, and was so depressed! I've got friends who can't wait until Christmas is over, and my SIL takes hers down on Christmas Day! Not me...I love everything that goes with it, and will drag it out as long as I can, LOL!

On Christmas Day? I couldn't do that. Besides, we are always at my in-laws and don't get home until late!

By Cat on Thursday, January 6, 2005 - 03:32 pm:

We took ours down the Monday after Christmas. We were getting really tired of the dog chasing the cat under the tree and knocking the bottom row of limbs off. That, and we wanted our family room back. :) The lights stayed up until New Years day.

Oh yeah, if the pets were destroying the tree, that would probably bug me, too. Jasmine occasionally bumped the branches with her tail, but never actually wrecked the tree.

I avoid taking down the tree and Decorations, this drives my hubby crazy. I don't like to say goodbye to chrissy, I love the glitter, lights, the whole silly season. I get so excited around that time of year, it makes me feel like a kid again. Once the decs' and tree come down, it seems like something is missing. Although I agree it is good to get things back to normal. Maybe I'm just a big sook LOL
