Great Taste and Cut Fat and Calories

Moms View Message Board: Let's Get Fit! (Weight Loss Support Group): Great Taste and Cut Fat and Calories

I love "Real Age" http://www.realage.com/ct/shape-up-slim-down/workouts/tip/7892 tips:
This Week's Tips: Here’s a simple way to slash major calories from some of your favorite comfort foods -- and you won’t miss a thing.
When you’re making lasagna, sloppy joes, chili, and other ground beef dishes, use chopped mushrooms instead of meat. If you’re like the people in a recent study, you’ll naturally eat about 420 fewer calories with these mushroom-enriched meals.

The Other Red Meat
People in the study also said the mushroom makeovers tasted just as good and kept them feeling full just as long as the beef versions did. And not only did the mushroom-based dishes mean a lower-calorie meal, but the mushroom eaters also ate fewer calories and less fat throughout the day than the beef eaters did. (Check out the Savory Mushroom Stroganoff recipe in this article.)

I'm a vegetarian, but family isn't ..... I don't replace all of their food, but for Tacos at least, I use the Morning Star Farms Meal Starters (used to be called "crumbles"). That's the one meal that we all eat the same thing ... it's breat replacement for anything that calls for ground beef, chilli, etc .....

My family LOVES them (at least they love my tacos, and yepper, they DO know it's "mommy's fake meat") and I have a pretty finicky crew around here !

Those patties that morningstar makes are good too. Sometimes I think I prefer it over a burger.

Another thing not to do is watch the Food Network. Which I love to do. So I am watching Bobby Flay and another chef battle on "Iron Chef America" They are making brownies and all of a sudden there is a brownie in my hand and I am munching away. It never fails.

They were making sushi once on Good Eats and I suddenly wanted to order out for Sushi.

They say to use cake plates for dinner plates. I did that last night but I don't know if I will do it every night.

Everytime I watch the Food Network I even up eatting. But I do like it for some reason. It isn't like I am a big cook. Everyone like to eat something different in this house.

Linda, your tip sounds so yummy I have a hard time believing it's a calorie cutter! I just wish folks around here liked mushrooms. I'm the only one. sigh
