jogging or a fast walk? I have been trying to find a tread mill since it rains here so much but lately it has been getting nicer. I am gonna start going out when dh gets home. Which is better for burning calories or does it matter?

I think you have to decide which is best for you. (Do your joints get sore if you jog?) Speed walking is supposed to be the perfect exercise. As long as you keep up the pace everyday and keep pushing yourself, you'll burn fat! (So, I've read!LOL!) Have fun!:)

I agree with Eve, although you burn more calories jogging.

Jogging will burn the most amount of calories. The more calories burned the more fat lost. Although it is said that doing aerobic exercise at a moderate pace burns more fat, it does not burn as many calories. High intensity exercise might burn less fat while you are doing the exercise, but the more calories you burn the more weight (fat) you will lose. Check out some of the many exercise web sites to learn more.

Hope this helps

Don't forget the duration side of the equation...

Walking for one hour will burn far more calories than jogging for 5 minutes.

According to this site,
http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/jumpsite/calculat.htm

a 150 pound person will burn 10 cal/min running at 5mph and 5 cal/min walking at 3.5 mph

I don't know about you, but I can certainly walk for an hour at a time. To burn the equivalent number of calories I'd need to run for 30 minutes... not likely for me ;)

In addition, you are less likely to hurt yourself walking than you are jogging.

My sister took up jogging in college when she was overweight (>170lbs). After a short time she began having pain in her knees. The orthopedic specialist told her she might need surgery to repair the damage to her joints. Needless to say she stopped jogging.

It's true, you have to be careful in any activity you choose. Be sure to stretch during and after your workouts to lessen the possibility of injury.

I got sciatica from running. It lasted about 5 years. I don't recommend running... I could not sit through a movie I was in so much pain.

I know people who wrecked their knees running too.
