Tooth Went Through Bottom Lip

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Tooth Went Through Bottom Lip

I got it to stop bleeding and got the swelling down.Is this good enough or does it need to be cleaned somehow? I put a little bit of polysporin cream on the outside of the mouth where the tooth went through.TIA

Cuts in the mouth and lips usually heal very quickly because of so much blood flow to the area. They do bleed alot but heal just as fast. Keep it clean and make sure your child doesn't pick at it with teeth, tongue or fingers.

Poor baby!

Depending on how bad it went through, it could use a stitch or two. I had a little guy once (not mine, a friend of Randy) that fell on his face and bit through his bottom lip and he ended up with three stitches. He was so proud of them! lol Anyway, it did scar a little, but nothing bad. Randy has a scar on his bottom lip. He split it open when he was 15 months and ended up with three stitches. Is it gaping open at all? Anything (like fat or tissue) sticking out? Is it a straight cut or crooked? Those are all things I may take him to the doctor for. Otherwise, let him suck on ice cubes or popsicles and just keep it clean with water and maybe neosporin on the outside. (I'm assuming it's one of the boys :) ) Hugs

Poor baby. If you can pull it apart, it should probably be looked at. If you can't, then it would probably be okay.

When I was 10 I was at the public swimming pool and fell on the concrete and my two front teeth went through my bottom lip....I'm 34 and still have a scar on my lip. My front left tooth apparently had nerve damage from the fall because it is now darker than the other teeth. I noticed this happening when I was about 22 years old, I've been to the dentist about it and he said the tooth is dead, apparently caused by damage from the fall I took in my childhood. I would love veneers but currently have no dental ins. and they won't make a payment plan with me :( Hopefully your little one's fall was less severe, and will be fine.

My son did the same thing when he was two or three. Bit through his bottom lip. He has a small scar, right at the edge of his lip, but it healed with no problem. Unfortunately, it killed the nerves to both top teeth, and even though neither of them gave him pain, they turned brown and started breaking off. He had to have them removed when he was four.

How's he doing?

He's better today :)Actually his brother cried more for him than him lol It didn't bleed for long and I used one of those take-out food ketchup packs for an ice pack(it worked great)I never thought about nerves in teeth so I'm hoping everything works out.Do I need to take him to the dentist?,or do I just wait and see?.Brandon seems to be the one that is accident prone out of the 3 boys so I know he'll keep us busy.He ate alot of frozen yoguart tubes yesterday. Thanks for all your advice :)
