Going pay rate for 9-year-old
Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Going pay rate for 9-year-old
By Andyjoy on Thursday, March 8, 2007 - 12:40 pm: | Hi ladies. If someone were to hire your 9-year-old to help bag leaves, what would you think was a reasonable rate of pay?
By Vicki on Thursday, March 8, 2007 - 01:17 pm: | Rake and bag or just bag them up?
By Andyjoy on Thursday, March 8, 2007 - 01:43 pm: | I will rake and put them into the bag; she will hold the bag, squish them down, tie the bags, etc.
By Dana on Thursday, March 8, 2007 - 03:11 pm: | ROFLOL, I was thinking "what's the going rate ON a 9 yr old child" and thought, I might add almost 9yr old in your ad placement
By Kaye on Thursday, March 8, 2007 - 03:21 pm: | Well, it just depends. I won't pay my child more than 5 an hour, period. And really you aren't talking about work, just hanging out with mom. I might pay per bag. 50 cents a bag. I am cheap with my kids though. I give them money for lots of things, buy them stuff, it seems like I am paying twice if I have to pay them much for chores. Honestly is nice to have company, but you could just as easily buy a 10 dollar trashcan to put the bags in and call it good.
By Andyjoy on Thursday, March 8, 2007 - 04:24 pm: | Sorry, I should have explained better. This isn't my kid, but a kid I teach in Sunday School. I want to give her a chance to earn some money and just hang out with me, as we like to talk about books, school, life, etc. I think I can figure out a good amount.
By Luvn29 on Thursday, March 8, 2007 - 04:56 pm: | Hmmmm... I don't really know. But I did want to add that I think what you are doing is great! I bet this will really mean so much to the little girl!
By Juli4 on Thursday, March 8, 2007 - 10:39 pm: | one of my best memories is when my SS school teacher took me to dinner when i was 11 or so. I think it is great.
By Tsa on Thursday, March 8, 2007 - 11:54 pm: | Does this family need money? If so, $5/hr is a fair amount if your doing it with her. If the family doesn't need money then maybe you could find something she is "into" and have her work for that? I know my kids would move mountains for a "Magic Attic" book, webkinz, a CD... Good luck, and thanks for taking the time to be with her.
By Breann on Friday, March 9, 2007 - 05:35 pm: | We prefer to pay by the job, rather than by the hour. The child seems to work harder that way. An hour seems like a long time to a child. I would pay $5 to help bag leaves. Maybe a bit more if it's going to take longer.
