Toilet flushing takes on new dimensions...

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Toilet flushing takes on new dimensions...

Last night Lara experienced the toilet over flowing for the very first time. I was in the bathroom with her when she flushed, and we all know the sound of a oncoming problem, LOL. I went for the toilet, but didn't get there soon enough. The water started to go over the rim, onto the bathroom floor. I was pretty consumed with the whole mess factor, so I didn't notice poor Lara turning pale. She screamed as the water started to hit the floor and the next thing I knew she ran into the living room. I left the mess and went to her. She was crying so hard saying, "Mom, get up here, get up here!" She was standing, trembling, on a chair. Bless her heart, she headed for higher ground. It never occurred to me how a four year old might feel about a toilet over flowing! Of course, if there's a flood, you want to be up high.
She's a survivor.:-)

Oldest DD is 17 and survived her first over flow last month. Her reaction to the water flowing on the floor was to freak out and start screaming. At 17 she had never had a toilet do that to her and she thought for sure it wouldn't stop... Talk about pale.. She was a wreck and then we made fun of her all night for it.. LOL great fun...

It was a lesson learned for the rest of them for sure... LOL They have all been trained in how we stop the toilet, just in case.. clipart{wink}

That child may never flush again!! I'm sorry it upset her so much.

LOL! Yikes. An overflowing toilet is never a good thing, though!

aww poor little Lara. But she's pretty darn smart to know to get to higher ground!

Awwww, poor thing! I still feel that way when a toilet starts to overflow! I want to get to higher ground! LOL! That is so cute, though!

Omygosh! How precious! What a good mom you are...going to soothe her. :) I'd be freaking out myself and joining her on the chair!!! LOL

Maybe she would get into her bed and "paddle"? That story was cute too. :)
Your Lara sounds exactly like Connor. He doesn't like big crowds, loud sounds, and I'm sure he would have done the same thing about the toilet.

What a sweet little thing. Poor little girl.

Yes, Heidi, Lara is really sensitive to the sound of the toilet flushing, so this latest thing just adds to her anxiety. Poor kiddo asks me to flush for her now, but I have to give her time to escape first! She really has a hard time in public restrooms. The echo just makes things worse. I have to warn her before I hit the button so she can cover her ears and close her eyes.:-)
And, too true, Dawn. It's never a good thing, LOL. I feel for your daughter, Bobbie. She probably won't live this down for awhile. I can well understand her reaction.:-)
