Giving up the Bottle II

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Giving up the Bottle II

Well, I did it. I went cold turkey. I made sure all the bottles were washed and I put them away in a container up on my shelf. I did give my ds one last one because he saw me putting them away and wanted one. He was given a bottle at my in-laws to soothe him because mommy and daddy were not there. Other than that he hasn't had any. He seems to be ok, but I'm not. I used to cuddle with him on the couch when he drank his morning bottle. I miss that.

Why can't you continue to cuddle with him? My goodness, no more bottles certainly doesn't mean no more cuddling! :) After I weaned DD from breastfeeding she still liked to cuddle with me when she first got up, just as she did when she nursed for the first time each day. {{{HUGS}}}

((HUG)) I went cold turkey with DS as soon as he turned a year, and I only did it because he was starting to wake up at night wanting a bottle. We had been through that with DD, so I said "NO way am I doing this again." LOL DS also didn't like cold milk--he loved his formula warmed. So, it was rough for the first couple of days, but now he's fine.

I know what you mean about the cuddling. DS takes a few chugs of milk from the sippy and then sits up and tosses the cup and is off and running. (Maybe it's a boy thing) He does not sit to cuddle anymore, even when I try to read a book. LOL If you find something that helps in that area, let me know!:)

Hang in there! It sounds like you are on your way. What kind of sippy's are you using? DS really likes the Nuby cups from Walmart. They have a soft plastic spout. He will use anything, but at first those were a good transition. They even have a "sport cup" that has a long nipple like spout and comes with a cover. HTH! Good luck.

LOL, Eve! Tyler was never really a cuddly kid either. Not sure if it's just a boy thing though. When he got a little older he loved to sit in my lap to be read to. That was my savior when Bethany was born! I would nurse her while reading to him. LOL!

I wish I could cuddle with him, but it's like Eve explained. For some reason, ds takes a couple of sips in my lap and then wiggles out of my arms. He wants to be running around with his big brother. sigh

((Hugs)) My Natalie is a snuggler, so she still (at 2 1/2) drinks a cup of milk sitting with DH or I before bed and and when she wakes up.
