Years ago we were good friends with a man named Jack. Jack was in construction. He worked on roofs, tile, carpet, drywall, etc, and we knew when we needed him we could count on him. He worked for his brother, who was our real estate agent when we bought our house 13 years ago.

Jack was also fun loving and flirty, kind of a restless soul, who never settled down, and found ways to get into trouble. He fathered a baby girl out of wedlock, whose mother left the state and married another man. Jack paid child support and saw his dd a couple of times a year. He was so proud of her, he brought her to meet me where I worked when she was just a newborn.

His weekness was alcohol, and as far as I knew, he never did any drugs. He was in jail a few times due to his carelessness, and had a problem accepting personal responsibility. His brother had bailed him out of many jams, and a few years ago, Jack moved to a different state to live with his parents. I don't know much about him after that, since I fell out of touch with him.

I found out today that Jack died of a massive heart attack on Sept 30. He was only in his 40's.

I was just thinking about him the other day. I am sad. He was just such a good soul.
