Vaginal Issues?

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Vaginal Issues?
By Reds9298 on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 - 08:43 pm:

Natalie has complained for the last couple of days that her "hoo" (vaginal area) and bottom hurts when I wipe her. It has been a little bit red, but lastnight when I was putting a nighttime diaper on her, I noticed quite a bit of white discharge spread out from top to bottom. I wiped her clean. Tonight she is pretty red throughout the area but no discharge. (I don't know what else to call it.) I put rash cream on her.

She's not itching at all and only complains when she's wiped, although not every time. Should I call the doctor tomorrow or just watch it? The white stuff (and quite a bit of it) is what concerned me lastnight.

Sounds like a yeast infection. I'd go ahead and take her to the doctor in the morning.

Ditto Pam-It does sound like yeast.Do have any anti-fungal cream you can put on her? That will help with the itch until you get her checked out.

Yes, I agree. It does sound like a yeast infection.

But she's not itching at all...can that still be yeast??

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 - 09:59 pm:

Yeast infections made my kids' privates RED and tender. I don't remember them saying it itched. Nystatin cream usually took care of it! It seemed I almost always had some in the house.

Okay! I've only had one yeast infection my whole life and that was when I was 10. I just remembered it itching soooo badly! I'll call the doctor in the morning and see if they just tell me to use something over the counter like you mentioned Dawn. My friend (who uses the same doctor) said they recommended Monistat for her daughter when she was 2. Is that the same thing? (Sorry for the ignorance)

Thank you ladies!

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 - 11:15 pm:

Monistat is similar. There were fewer things that were OTC, when my kids were little.

Jade just had this like 4 months ago and her skin down there looked like leather and was really red and never itched. We took her to the Dr and it was a fungus rash that can happen when they stay wet down there. Like having a pee diaper on. Jade always got changed pretty quickly after she went but the Dr told us it was common in little girls because so many areas are open. they gave us a cream we used it for 7 days and it was gone.

My 5 year old occasionally complains of her bottom hurting and the doctor said that it is most likely hygeine issues. She forgets to wipe a lot of the time and that is what causes it. It gets red and sensitive, but goes away after some diligence in cleaning it properly. I also let her take showers now because of it. But for a 2 year old with discharge I would say yeast, but anytime I have had it, it itched like crazy, so i don't know. Let us know what it is.

We have an appt. at 2:20 today! I called this morning and they said to definitely bring her in..could be yeast or UTI. Getting a urine sample from a 2 year old???
Thank you everyone...I'll keep you posted!

By Tripletmom on Wednesday, September 20, 2006 - 01:32 pm:

Katie had a few UTI's at 21/2. The only way I could get a urine sample was to go to E.R. and get a few of these urine bags for dk's.They stick around the vagina and at least catch the urine. The only symptom for Katie was a fever though. She did get a yeast infection once and we think it was from wearing tights for ballet or when she played dress up.She didn't complain of itching and it was very red.I used canesten cream for her and it cleared up.

I was thinking maybe they would put a hat in the toilet and she could go in there?? I hope!

In case it wasn't seen on "Funny!" on the General Board, the doc really doesn't think it's a yeast infection. We did a urine sample and it came back with small traces of blood and slightly elevated white blood cell count. They are sending it to the lab for further testing. He really thinks it's just an external irritation though, but we'll know for sure in a day or so. He recommended sitting in a baking soda bath for about 5min. every day for the rest of the week.

And the urine sample was a cup...Mommy caught the pee-pee!
