Two Year Old with a Cold

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Two Year Old with a Cold
By Heaventree on Friday, August 11, 2006 - 08:26 pm:

Matthew has a head cold, he has a runny nose and sounds all stuffy.

If it were me that had the cold I would probably just tough it out, do you give a 2 year old anything for the stuffies? He had is afternoon nap today with no problems sleeping and he's in bed now and so far so good.

If he's not sleeping tonight is there anything that can give him that will help? The only things I have in the house is Benadryl and cough medicine, but it's for a chest cough. And I also have Tylenol.

Any suggestions?

TIA

I only give Natalie something with a cold when she has trouble sleeping at night. Usually she will have drainage and wake up often choking and gagging. Then I give her Benadryl which dries her up and helps her sleep. That's what I take when I have the same problem.

All I keep in the house is Benadryl,Tylenol, too! (And Ibuprofen)

I usually do the saline drops just to loosen things up abit. Can he blow his nose yet?Can you elevate his bed/crib with a pillow to help with the sleeping.Hopefully he had good night last night. Its hard when you have both kids sick together((HUGS))

Well the cold looks like it's almost over, seems a bit strange to me, maybe it's just hiding trying to trick me and it will be back with a vengence. I never seen a 2 day cold before. I hope he doesn't have allergies.

Thanks for all the info, he seems to be sleeping fine without any drugs or saline so I'll just leave it alone for now.

Our doctor always reccomends for us to use Children Dimetapp cold/allergie. It's Grape Flavor and it really seems to help when Taylor or Dylan have a cold. At night I usually use Mortin for Colds and that helps her sleep better at night.

Another thing is it could just be allergies or teething. Good luck!
