Trina again? Newborn carseat help...?

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Trina again? Newborn carseat help...?
By Zoie on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 - 07:29 pm:

Trina or anyone else who can help,

My brother and sister-in-law are expecting a baby soon, and have registered for this product:

Cosco 01726FMT Integrated Travel System

I have no qualms about buying a different infant carseat and/or travel system than the one on their registry if it's going to be safer for the baby, as I am 98% positive they did no research on carseats or travel systems before they registered and probably just picked out what looked good in the store. If I choose another and say to my sil, "I know you registered for a different one, but this one is safer for the baby", she will have no problem with that whatsoever...

So my question is, IS this a good pick or is there a better/safer pick(s) that you typically would recommend for a newborn?

Thanks for any help, and I apologize in advance if you've already answered this question a million times, I did do a search of past postings but had trouble finding any recommendations for newborns.

No apologies necessary. As a CPS Tech, this is what I do. :) Personally, I wouldn't get that particular one. I recommend a travel system with a Graco Snugride that has a 5 pt. harness and a front harness adjuster. Here is one, but there are several patterns to pick from. You can view them at the Graco web site.

Not only is this travel system cheaper, but I think they'll be much happier with it.

It also wouldn't hurt to tell them where they can find a CPS Tech in their area. smileywink

Another good seat is the new Graco SafeSeat infant carrier. Currently, it's the only infant carrier on the market that goes up to 30 lbs.. It may not be available with a travel system, but you could buy it and a compatible stroller separately.

HTH!

Thanks SOOO much!!! I'll add the seat inspection center info to a card attached to the carseat. Thanks again!
