TRINA!! Rear-facing seat help!!!!

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: TRINA!! Rear-facing seat help!!!!
By Crystal915 on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 - 01:13 pm:

Ok, since I'm taking care of an 8 month old, I have the Evenflo Discovery car seat that I used with my kids (it's not expired, I checked) installed in my van. I put it in the back seat, middle, originally, because my kids' seats were in the middle seat. (We have a 2002 Grand Caravan) I moved one of my kids to the back middle, and moved the baby seat to the center, because I couldn't get the carrier out from the back. Now, I've installed according to instructions, and used the locking clip, but the car seat is still moving quite a bit, especialy if you lift the top forward (towards the back of the vehicle. I don't remember having such problems with it when we had them in our Focus, but the seat just doesn't seem safe at all!! There are no LATCH tethers for this seat, so that's not an option. What do I do?? I've tightened it as much as I can (it's installed using the base), and still, it's so loose!! TIA!

Without seeing myself, it's hard to tell. It's supposed to rebound toward the back of the vehicle when you lift the top forward, so that's OK. Check the tightness of installation by the belt path. Is it a lap belt only spot or is there both a lap and shoulder belt? Does your van have leather or vinyl seats? We use a very thin rubber shelf liner to prevent car seats from slipping on leather and vinyl vehicle seats. How is the recline? Does the instruction manual say it's OK to use a pool noodle or rolled up towel under the base at the bite of the vehicle seat? Are the buckle stalks getting in the way? Have you tried installing it in a different position in the same row?

How much does this baby weigh? I think the Discovery only goes up to 20 lbs..

She only weighs 14 (preemie), and we have cloth seats. It's in as tight as I can get it, and is at the right angle, the little green thing shows in the window. It's a lap and shoulder belt, and the other position in that row is the same set up. Thanks for the link. :)

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Wish I could crawl into your van and play around with it. LOL!

Actually, you were a big help, there is a CPS tech on post. I'll be giving him a call. Thanks!
