Toddler ~ takes his diaper off

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Toddler ~ takes his diaper off
By Heaventree on Thursday, July 13, 2006 - 03:19 pm:

Matthew is now 28 months. I have not started potty training, I think he's not quite ready and I'm really busy these days chasing Cameron around the house. I have put the potty out and he sits on it everytime we go into the bathroom.

We have a gate on Matthew's bedroom and in the morning he wakes up and plays in his room from 6:30 until we get up at 7:00 am. This morning he had no bottoms and no diaper on and I think he wet his bed, hard to say as I forgot a water bottle in his room last night.

This is not the first time he has removed his diaper and pj bottoms. Any suggestions on what to do to get him to leave the diaper on aside from the obvious of getting my butt out of bed? :)

Funny thing is, when we are getting ready for bathtime and I ask him to take off his pants and diaper he needs my help.

I've heard putting the diaper on backwards works. I've never done it though. Good luck!

Yes, try putting it on backwards. If that doesn't work I've heard some mothers say they used duct tape. LOL!

Also when winter hits, find those footed snapped jammies and that helps some.

My youngest would take off a dirty diaper and paint the walls. It was not a fun experience! He would do this in the middle of the night. The backwards diapers helped a bit. Ultimately I had to give in and potty train the mean way (long story) he was not quite 3 and really not quite ready, but it had to be done.

Thanks Ladies, I'll try putting his diaper on backwards and I'll let you know if it works.

See if you can get a onesie in his size and let him sleep in that. And ditto, when the cooler weather comes, have him sleep in one piece jammas.
Good luck!

Oh we had to toss the one piece PJ's he was fascinated with the snaps and zippers and I would often find him with his clothes off in the morning.

I put the diaper on backwards tonight, should take him awhile to figure that one out. LOL.

Thanks again.

How'd the backward diaper work? I tried that with mine, about the same age as yours, and it was figured out pretty quick. Ahg!

By Heaventree on Saturday, July 15, 2006 - 04:00 pm:

It's working so far, it worked better with the Costco diapers but I had to go out and buy some Crusiers as he needs to go up a size at night and didn't want to buy a huge box. He was leaking out of the Costco diapers. It's a little bit harder to get the Cruisers on backwards and get them tight enough in the front without them sagging in the waste area.

I'm sure it won't be long before he figures it out, but so far it's working. When he does figure it out I plan on buying a onsie and putting that on backwards as well. We'll see how that works. Or just buy a straight jacket!

Thanks for asking.
