Baby has a broken glass in the playpen with him...

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Baby has a broken glass in the playpen with him...
By Dana on Friday, June 2, 2006 - 09:33 am:

Remember yesterdays post about how he is driving me crazy? Well, last night, I had to get to know my new rental car before I went out for my evening MRI appt. so he was in the play pen, the only safe place to keep him right now.

I return into the house and see the small cabinet that sits next to the pen open. And on the floor broken glass. It was a wine glass. He was able to lean over the edge and open the door and get the one glass that was close to him. So I cleaned it up while he stayed in the pen. All was well. Then I go to pick him up and there in the pen w/ him was the rest of the borken goblet! OMG! I was thanking God immediately for keeping him safe. He could have easily cut himself or cut part of his body off w/ that glass. He had only one tiny scratch on his finger. The mesh on the play pen, however, is has two wholes now on two separate panels. I am so greatful he was not hurt.

I swear I will be a basket case before today is over. My back and neck are so sore from having to chase and pick him up or lift him off of things (both in light braces due to accident last week). I just want to cry right now.

Well, he is on the bench railing now getting ready to have a small reath fall on him if he keeps pulling.

Pray I make it thru another day.

(((HUGS))) Is there someone that can watch him while you have some downtime.Kids at this age need constructive play. When kids get bored they get into everything. Most times its the quality of play time instead of quantity. When I needed 20-30 minutes to have a shower I use to put my DD in her highchair with sesame street videos.A little bit of TV at this age is OK.It makes it worse when you are not up to par. Here's hoping you have a better afternoon.((HUGS))

More {{{HUGS}}} Dana! *Phew!* Thank God he's OK! My DD was very *BUSY* as a toddler. (Still is!) I had to watch her like a hawk or all heck would break loose. I never took a shower while leaving her unsupervised because that would have been asking for trouble! LOL! I had to keep her busy doing acceptable activities or she would find FUN on her own. Argh! I highly recommend the book Raising Your Spirited Child: A Guide for Parents Whose Child Is More Intense, Sensitive, Perceptive, Persistent, Energetic by Mary Sheedy Kurcinka.

Funny you should mention a shower. I finally took one this morning. It is so sad when you think "great, I got a shower this week" and think that is good news. I remember when once a day was the standard I lived by.

I had DD and her friend watch while I took a quick shower before my dr appt this AM. Even that I was uncomfortable with. This little boy can do so much so fast. But when I got out they had him happily occupied and out of harms way.

((Dana))) sounds like my youngest. She never stopped talking and she never stopped climbing, running, etc. I found things like play doh - although, he might still be to young for that, a nonbreakable bowl of water and stuff to float in it, would keep her busy and keep my sanity. Sometimes I would put her in the high chair with these things to play with. Anything when you are desperate. Good luck!

Hmmm, playing in the high chair. Can you believe I never thought about that? I have tried a TV show in the past, but he gets bored. I will make a different post to get ideas on safe (and non messy--is that possible) things to do in the high chair.

He is currently in his crib and still awake, but happily messing with the stuff hanging in there. He is just gonna have to do it while I take a brake.
