Buckle those babies in, even when not in the car!

This was on the CPS list serve recently. Buckle your babies into their car seats, even when you're not traveling in the car!

Baby injured

A 10-month-old baby was flown to the hospital Wednesday after he fell out of a shopping cart at Shopper's Food Warehouse, city firefighters said.

Firefighters went to the 2300 block of Solomons Island Road after getting a report about a fallen baby at 2:10 p.m. The boy fell out of
the shopping cart and hit his head, said Lt. Ed Hadaway, fire department spokesman. The baby was treated at the scene and flown to D.C. Children's Hospital with serious but non lifethreatening injuries.

It was later learned that the baby was in a car seat that was not strapped to the cart and he was not buckled in the seat, Lt. Hadaway said.

You would think that common sense would tell people to buckle their kids in. I was standing in line yesterday & this little girl was all over the shopping cart, I put my arms up twice to catch her because she almost fell. The other day I was at a restaurant & this woman had her baby in the car seat just sitting on a chair, when the baby moved it looked like the car seat was going to fall right over. Then the lady fixed a bottle & put it in the babies mouth & covered the whole carrier up with a blanket...made me think of a parrot.

I hope the 10 month old has no lasting effects of the fall.

Why is it so hard to pick you baby up, when they need to be fed? TAhe whole "prop the bottle" thing, just bugs me, not to mention an unstable car seat!

Isn't it amazing that nowadays you see parents shelling out top dollar on the newest, safest, best 'stuff' and then neglect to use common sense in caring for their kids?
