DD's sad night......

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: DD's sad night......
By Eve on Wednesday, May 3, 2006 - 09:50 am:

We had quite a night last night. DD's fish "Swimmer Girl" died last night. She had this fish for 2 years! She came in when I was nursing Mason and said "Please cuddle me." I gave her a hug as best I could and then I got her in the tub, when she started crying saying "I"m sorry, Mom! Swimmer Girl died! I'm sorry!" She started crying hysterically and I went in and sure enough she was dead. DD had tried to "wake her up" by reaching in to her bowl. (I think she thought it was her fault, so she didn't tell me.) So, she was heartbroken last night. She was sobbing and sobbing and it was AWFUL! DH was at his golf league with friends and wasn't home--I was at such a loss!

After saying good bye to the fish and drawing her a picture and calling my Mom and Sister to tell them (and to help me!), she finally calmed down a bit, but was extremely sad. She made everyone cry! It was heartbreaking! She asked DH for another fish last night and he went out and bought a new tank and a new fish. She named the fish "Elizabeth" and she said she's Swimmer Girl's sister. So, she told Elizabeth all about her sister, which brought my DH to tears!

What a night! To top it off, DS caught DD's cold, so I was up all night. Boy, no one could have prepared me for parenthood! It's tough sometimes. Especially when your heart just breaks for them! Tough.

Oh Eve! How sad! My girls recently got fish and I've been thinking of how we'll handle their demise someday!! Did you flush Swimmer Girl or did you bury her? How is Syd today??

I'm sorry. That must have been so heartbreaking. I'm in tears right now!

{{{{{Sydney}}}}} Your post brought me to tears, too! Poor little girl. I hope Elizabeth brings her some pleasure and helps heal some of the pain of loosing Swimmer Girl. Hugs to Mom and Dad, too.

That breaks my heart, too.

Oh no! Poor Syd. {{{HUGS}}} :( DD has lost several fish, and she took the first two the hardest. Although it is heart breaking to experience this with a child it does teach important lessons about the cycle of life.

May Swimmer Girl rest in peace.

Aw how sweet! Poor swimmer girl and Syd :(

I remember when my fish "Princess" died when i was probably in first grade. I came home from school and noticed the fish was not in the bowl. My mom had found it and didn't have the heart to flush it while i was at school so she put it in a little cardboard box that your jewelry comes in. When i got home she told me that Princess died. I was so sad and i asked my older brother to help m bury it in the yard. And he did.

Just be glad that Swimmer Girl didn't jump out of the fish bowl like one of my fish did.....it was pretty gross when we found it on the carpet in the morning. I REALLY cried with that one!
It's funny to me now, but at the time it was tragic!

Poor thing.... I hope she is feeling better today.

By Sandysmom on Wednesday, May 3, 2006 - 03:57 pm:

I feel so bad for your DD. :( We have also lost many fish. (((((hugs))))

By Melanie on Wednesday, May 3, 2006 - 04:45 pm:

(((HUGS))) I am so sorry for Syd. I hope Elizabeth helps ease her hurt.

Hope Mason feels better. And I hope you can sneak in a nap. :)

By Eve on Wednesday, May 3, 2006 - 09:28 pm:

Thanks, everyone. Today went much, much better. There were no tears! Elizabeth Blue is keeping her mind occupied, thank heavens! Swimmer Girl didn't get flushed. DD wanted to put her in a special box, so she would go to Heaven. So, that's where she is and she'll be buried as soon as Daddy has a chance. Oh, and the first thing she did when she got home from school was to run upstairs and check on Elizabeth. LOL My poor baby!

Thanks, Melanie. My man is refusing a bottle while sick again, so it looks like no rest for me yet. Soon, I hope! LOL:)

Oh, Eve, I just saw this. I'm sorry about Syd's fish. It sounds like you are doing a great job of helping her cope.
Hope Mason is better soon.
Ame

Hope Mason is feeling better soon, and I'm glad the new fish is distracting Syd!
