Double Strollers and/or Travel Systems

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Double Strollers and/or Travel Systems
By Boxzgrl on Saturday, March 25, 2006 - 11:54 am:

I'm going out of my mind looking for a travel system with a double stroller that has a fabric that I like. I love the reviews of the Graco's but their double strollers have very limited fabric choices. I'm looking online at different ones but I honestly don't really know of any more than Graco. Any recommendations? I really want to stick with the Graco Snugride carseat but if I can't find a fabric I like that will match with the stroller than i'm open to any brands out there. Heck, I don't even care about price at this point because it's driving me crazy. I just want a carseat with great safety ratings that comes with a matching stroller and has somewhat of a nice fabric design. Is that too much to ask for, lol! I really prefer the green colors (I really likr Graco's Windsor pattern) but i'm open to any suggestions at this point.

We had a Baby Trend Sit-n-Stand and really liked it. I believe there is also another company that makes a similar model called a Joovy Caboose. An infant carrier car seat fits on the stroller seat part and then there is a bench on the back for the older child to sit on or a little platform for standing. We gave ours to Eve, but I don't know if she's been able to try it out yet. We loved it, especially when going to the mall or an amusement park.

My cousin was just here with her two year old. She had a mcclearan (i think that is how you spelt it). It was an amazing stroller. Look and see if they have a double. Her fabric was plain, just a light blue, really unnoticible. The quality of the stroller made everything else unimportant.

My friend just ordered a sit and stand yesterday!

I have not used the one you gave us yet, Trina. I don't like it as much with the infant carrier, but I do like it when Mason gets big enough to really sit up and then Sydney can sit down in the back. She can't wait to use it! She has been just walking for so long. LOL

Melissa-I say get a stroller that you really like and don't worry so much about the infant seat matching. I know, we only use the carrier until the baby can start sitting up in a shopping cart. So, only 5-6 months.

Good luck!

Oh, a sit and stand is on sale in the Baby Center store right now for $132. Sit and Stand

Thanks for the info.

Well now i'm thinking about giving Nathan Kaitlyn's Roundabout and just buying a new cover since she's only 5 pounds from outgrowing it anyways and getting a new seat for Kaitlyn.

Trina- Is Kaitlyn still too small/young for the Parkway? I can't remember much info on boosters. She'll be 3 in May and weighs 35 pounds and is 37 inches long. If she's still too young, what other Britax would you recommend? The Regent? TIA

As far as strollers, i'm just going to keep researching before making a final decision.

Melissa- for my son I had ( and still have two years later) a Graco ( I love there products) Coach Edition stroller, it comes with a matching car seat, it has a removable bed, it's reverseable, it has a cover to slide up on the stroller/bed to cover the chil din the winter. it has a huge basket for storage. It I found it easy to manaveur light to carry on the bus. But it is big in size when transporting it in my car (small trunk) thats all that could fit in my trunk.

I dont' know how to make the links click able so I can't post you one here. but some sites to check out( they all carry it for different prices) are
Babies/Toys R Us, Baby Depot, the Baby Center, and other baby sites. Good luck in your search , hope you find what you are looking for.

Melissa, we recommend kids stay in a 5 pt. harnessed car seat until at least 4 yrs. and 40 lbs.. Most kids aren't big enough or mature enough to sit properly in a belt positioning booster before then. Kaitlyn is 35 lbs. so she hasn't reached the 40 lb. weight limit yet, but how much growing room does she have in the Roundabout height wise? Are her shoulders above the top harness slots? If so, she has outgrown it by height. If not, she still has growing room. If that's the case, *I* would buy an infant seat for Nathan and keep Kaitlyn in the Roundabout for now. Some people start right off with their newborn in a rear facing convertible but that's not always the best option. Depending on the size of the baby, a convertible may be too big for a newborn. The harness straps should be at or below the shoulders of a child in a rear facing car seat. If the harness straps are above the shoulders of a newborn that could be dangerous in the event of a crash. Not to mention the fact that you won't have the convenience of an infant carrier. You'll have to disturb the baby when taking out of the car seat and will need to use a stroller/sling/baby carrier while out shopping, etc..

Oops, almost forgot...

If Kaitlyn has outgrown the Roundabout but you'd like to keep her harnessed longer the Britax Marathon is worth checking out. It's a convertible that harnesses up to 65 lbs. and has taller harness slots. My niece, Sydney, rode in one because she's long torsoed and outgrew her Roundabout before she was ready for a booster. The Regent is an awesome seat but it is HUGE and doesn't fit in all vehicles. It's forward facing only and harnesses up to 80 lbs..

To give you an idea of how BIG the Regent is... This is a pic of my DD in a Super Elite (former non-LATCH version of the Husky/Regent).

Yeah, that IS pretty big. LOL. Maybe we'll stick with the Marathon until she outgrows that. We we're originally going go get the Marathon but chose the Roundabout assuming she'd take forever to outgrow it. Her shoulders are right at the top harness slots so i'm not sure how much more time she has before growing out of it.

I'll just keep researching things for Nathan as well. Thank you for all your help. Who thought something so simple would be such a hard decision, lol!

I just wanted to say thank you again Trina. After more reading today, we decided to go with the Companion for Nathan and an upgrade to the Marathon for Kaitlyn at a future date (hopefully soon). :)
