4.5 year old Peyton has her very first loose tooth! *Sniff* She came to me a little scared about it until I told her that the tooth fairy would come. Now she is very excited! :)

Awww...how cute!! Let's see...with a 7% inflation rate...that's 10 dollars tooth fairy!! LOL JK.
Tell us how she reacts to the present from the tooth fairy!

Wow, that's early! But I used to love being the tooth fairy!

By Trina~moderator on Thursday, January 19, 2006 - 04:00 pm:

Wow, that is early! Congrats to Peyton! Bethany (7.5) just lost her first tooth this past October. LOL!

By Melanie on Thursday, January 19, 2006 - 05:00 pm:

LOL Heidi, I am afraid the tooth fairy isn't quite that generous around our house! :)

I am a little surprised that she is losing one this early. Our oldest was only 4.5, but he had his first tooth by four months, so that kind of made sense. Peyton didn't get her first tooth until she was about 9 months old, so I would have expected this a bit later. But, at any rate, she's very excited.

Awww, that's neat! Sarah got her first tooth, when she was about 5 months old and I'm pretty sure she lost her first tooth in kindergarten.

By Amecmom on Thursday, January 19, 2006 - 08:29 pm:

So neat and sad at the same time. I've heard that the earlier they get them, the earlier they start to lose them. I don't know it it's true.

I honestly have never heard of anyone losing a tooth that early. Both of my boys got their first teeth at 4 months and didn't lose them until the end of kindergarten.

I'll bet she's excited!

By Melanie on Thursday, January 19, 2006 - 10:10 pm:

It came out tonight! She said it was hurting when she was playing with it so I told her the only way to make it stop hurting was to pull it out and be done with it. So she did. LOL.

She says she only noticed it was wiggley when she was eating strawberries this morning. The tooth fairy didn't get much notice with this one! LOL.

Yes Ame, definitely sad. She said that she is going to say good-bye to her tooth tonight since the tooth fairy is going to take it. *sniff*

My oldest lost her first two teeth right before she turned five. She didn't get her first teeth until she was 8 months so I don't think when they come in is related to when they come out. Unfortunately, I've heard the earlier the permanent teeth come in, the weaker they are. Melanie, if your dentist doesn't apply sealants routinely, you might ask about them.

I LOVE being the tooth fairy! My poor ds will be 7 in April and still hasn't lost a tooth. He's so upset about it. Do you do anything special with the first tooth, Melanie?

By Luvn29 on Friday, January 20, 2006 - 08:25 am:

Tink, have you had a dentist check out why he hasn't lost any yet? Some kids have problems losing them on their own. Not trying to alarm you or anything, but you can't be too careful.

Watch and make sure that the others don't try to come in behind the baby teeth. Also, feel with your fingers to see if any are just a little loose. We could hardly get ds to work his tooth at all and it stayed loose forever till it started hurting and he wanted to get it out.

My ds lost his first tooth on his own a few weeks ago, and a second one last week, and he will be seven in July, but he had to have a dentist pull his two top front teeth when he was four because he had fallen and damaged the nerves in those teeth.

There is a little girl in kindy this year that has lost EIGHT teeth already! Can you believe that??? That blew my mind!

My kids didn't get their teeth till they were almost a year old. Dd got her first tooth at 11 months! She didn't lose her first tooth till a couple months into first grade.

My son is loosing teeth left and right over here! The tooth fairy is feeling the pinch!LOL Right now he has three loose and he lost his last one on Christmas Eve!

By Melanie on Friday, January 20, 2006 - 11:08 am:

Tink, the tooth fairy leaves a silver dollar for the first tooth. And yes, our dentist is good about sealants. So far ds #1 (10 years) doesn't have any cavities, so his teeth don't *appear* to be any weaker at this point.

I am also curious if you have talked to the dentist about your ds. I had never heard of such a thing before, but two different people told me yesterday of stories, one personal and one a mom about her child, where the teeth all had to be pulled because none fell out naturally.

Jeanne and Adena, it's amazing how the teeth all start to go at once. Those toothless grins are too cute!

I love the pictures with the toothless grins. They are priceless.
