Trina - booster seat walmart

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive July-December 2005: Trina - booster seat walmart

I saw someone buying a booster seat tonight. Just wanted to let you know. A Graco one (turbo booster? Looked like this, on the box

There is also a billboard in my city, one of the main drags that says something about 4'9" is the magic number.

So, I think the word is getting out. I also see them in cars occasionally.

thumbsupsmiley Glad to hear about the billboard! Hopefully it will get the message across. However, I just looked up WI Child Restraint Laws - Kids in your state are only legally required to be in a carseat/booster until the age of 3. :( Unfortunately, many child restraint laws don't coincide with current safety recommendations.

BTW, my SIL moved to WI recently. She's in Appleton.

I kept mine in a booster until they were 40 lbs or so. I think the rule then was 4 years old or 40 pounds. Things have changed since my kids were 4.

Even if it isn't a law, I think the billboard is a good idea, since it's where people can see it everyday.

Let me just say it is all about education! I was one of those who followed the law, my middle child moved into a seatbelt at age 2, because that was the texas law (now he was over 40 pounds, but still). We moved to cincy and I realized just how wrong that was and we moved back to boosters. But when I traveled to TX and saw family with kids they just didn't have any clue. I have forwarded on MANY postings from you. My sil just doesn't get it. So if car seats are good she thinks you should use them just as long as they fit. So her 6 1/2 year old daughter, of 45 pounds is in her car seat that she has had since sister was 1, so at least 8 years. And I can't convince her it isn't safe. While they visit me, we use my extra booster!

Kaye, yikes! Obviously your SIL doesn't realize that her 6.5 yr. old DD no longer "fits" her car seat once she exceeds the weight limit (40 lbs.). Sure, she could keep her in a harnessed seat if she prefers, but she needs to get one that harnesses past 40 lbs.. Not to mention the fact that car seats expire 6 yrs. after the date of manufacture.

Yes, it's all about EDUCATION! :)
