Is this still normal in a 2 month old?

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Is this still normal in a 2 month old?
By Mara on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 - 09:25 am:

Joshua is 7 weeks old and sometimes I still notice that he loses control over his eyes. I know that this is perfectly normal in a newborn, but is 7 weeks too old for this to happen? Granted, this does'nt happen all the time, but at least once a day I will notice that his eyes will look in diferent directions. What do you all think? I've tried to google it but can't find anything about it, except in newborns.

I think it is, but I would call the doctor and ask.

Hi Mara,

Doesn't hurt to call. All the things I waited on, when I finally got to the specialists they asked me why I didn't get on it when he was a new infant. Also in many states the Dept. of Health will evaluate a newbie for free for things like vision, muscle control. They're funded under early intervention. Your local Board of Ed can usually tell you who to call.

If you have a children's hospital within dialing distance their pediatric opthamology clinics can often give an answer or evaluate for less or free (do you have medicaid or free child health insurance through the state for him). If you qualify for food stamps and WIC you qualify for these other things too. Sometimes the child health insurance program has a call-in line for child development questions.

DEFINITELY give your doctor a call .... my little one (now 3) seemed to have spasms (not quite full-blown seizures) when he was tiny, he got an EEG which told us basically nothing, which was good .... and he eventually grew out of it. But boy was I worried and this was my third infant ....
If you're concerned, ask the doctor, that's what he/she is there for.
Linda is correct, there are state funded interventions for all kinds of issues ..... call the doctor first, then check with the dept of health to see what you qualify for, what they cover, and who to talk to next.
Don't wait until you hear somebody ask you why you didn't come in sooner, if you can intervene soon enough, lots of things can be caught and turned around !
keep us posted !
