Ds has his first wiggly tooth

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive July-December 2005: Ds has his first wiggly tooth

My ds' bottom central incisor is wiggly. I just found this out over the weekend. When I examined the inside of his mouth behind the wiggly tooth, I saw a pretty big bump, whitish on the top. It looks like it may be the permanent tooth but I thought that would not be visible there but instead comes from below the baby tooth. I made an appt with dentist for the morning but feeling alittle anxious and wondered if anyone has any experience with this.

the teeth typically come in a little behind, i think this is because they are thicker teeth. One of my kids has great teeth, they shift apart before coming loose and give plenty of room to come in. He will be my one one not in braces :)

It's actually pretty typical to be able to see the permanent tooth when the baby tooth is still there. My DS, age 7, just lost 4 teeth in 2 weeks. I was able to see the permanent tooth while the baby tooth was still in. They were all sort of behind the baby tooth.

Thanks. It makes me feel better to hear that. I have an appt tomorrow with the dentist just to be certain.

I agree that it's perfectly normal. I also think it is wise to have it checked, just in case. When I was a kid, I had two teeth that came in behind baby teeth and it did cause my teeth to shift and I ended up in braces. That wasn't typical, but since it can happen, it's good that you are having it checked. :)

Now is the time to think about the Tooth Fairy's going rates. Don't go overboard the first time because the Tooth Fairy becomes a frequent flyer very soon! LOL

Our TF leaves a dollar a tooth, unless on vacation, then the child gets $5. Only happened once, thank goodness, and the TF was in a bind coming to a hotel room. :)

The TF also only comes for the first front milk teeth and not the back teeth. That is because out TF has to work for four kids. She also leaves the teeth with me to keep. She's so thoughtful!

LOL Annie! Needless to say Josh is very eager to have the TF visit him and by the looks of it, it should be very soon. We saw the dentist yesterday and she didn't seem phased at all by the permanent tooth growing behind the baby tooth. It happens around 20% of the time and eventually the tongue should push in forward into position. She said I didn't need to pull out the loose tooth although I heard differently from several sources. I would think logically it would be better to pull out the tooth to make room for the new tooth. I really hope it shifts correctly.
