Hard Foods

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive July-December 2005: Hard Foods
By Heaventree on Tuesday, August 23, 2005 - 11:35 pm:

When can we start with harder foods? Matt will be 18 months soon and I'm still not comfortable with things like celery, raw carrots, apples etc.

At what age are these foods appropriate?

TIA

Does your little one have molars? I still don't give my 17 month old dd raw carrots or celery, but she does well with apple, I just quarter it, core it, peel it, and then slice it thinly and she does ok. I would try first with something like apples or pears that are a little softer and see how he does. My dd has 4 molars and is able to grind up that food pretty well, but does still need lots of watching and reminding.

You can parboil them and offer them that way. It softens them and makes them safe to serve toddlers.
