Tylenol & Benadryl ok?

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive July-December 2005: Tylenol & Benadryl ok?
By Reds9298 on Monday, July 25, 2005 - 08:47 pm:

Natalie has a runny nose today, a watery eye, and a little cough. (Maybe her very first cold!) I haven't checked her temp officially yet, but she feels warm. I gave her some Benadryl to help her sleep tonight, but can I give her Tylenol or Ibuprofen, too, if she has a temp? TIA!

By Colette on Monday, July 25, 2005 - 08:59 pm:

You can but I wouldn't unless her temp is really high. A fever is your body's way of fighting off infection. Chances are, the benadryl will put her into a healing sleep. Try a tepid bath instead.

Ditto Colette. Unless you know the fever is really affecting her normal sleep and play patterns or it is very high, I would suggest a cooler bath and cool fluids. She can have the Tylenol or Motrin, if you think it is bad enough for it.

Ditto the others for daytime, but at night, I'd give her the pain reliever to make sure she can get a good night's sleep if she's running a fever.

Thanks everyone. Ame, I was thinking the same thing.
