Measles?

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive July-December 2005: Measles?
By Clarabel on Thursday, July 21, 2005 - 09:56 pm:

About three days of fever,103 at times.Cough, but he's had that off and on for weeks .The fever is gone today and he seemed fine, so I didn't take him the Dr. but he was very cranky and not eating much.Well now he has a flat splotchy red rash all over his face and a little on his back and chest. He's already had roseolla but he hasn't been vaccinated for measles.I think that's it.
So,with me being 7 months pregnant, does anyone know if I'm at risk.I had the vaccine, I believe but it can wear off by the time you're an adult. Should I get that globulin injection?
I will probably get him to the ped tomorrow, but the best info comes from mothers who have been through it.
Thanks.Yikes!...measles. :(

Definetly go to the ped and then check with your OB. But I think that measles are okay if you have been immunized. The german measles can cause real issues. Importantly though you are very far along, most exposure issue come during the first trimester when the brain is being formed. Keep us posted please!

It turned out to be something which is caused by echovirus and is much less serious than measles. It is common this time of year. After visiting the dr I looked up some images of measles and oh...that does not look good! What he had is a light rash more like roseolla and it's almost gone now. He's feeling much better today.
I was arrogant to think I could diagose this myself.A real case of measles is pretty scary.

Well, I'm glad to hear that you were wrong and that he's already feeling much better. Measles really can be a terrible thing.

I'm glad he is feeling better and that it wasn't measles!
