Mystery Fever!

This one has got me stumped... of course, it doesn't take much!!! :)

My DD had a GREAT weekend! It was very warm, so Sat and Sun we were out in the yard all day, in the pool! She drank plenty of fluids, but wasn't too keen on eating. I figured it was just the heat. I took her the daycare yesterday morning, and she was a little whiny (VERY unusual)! Her grandmother picked her up after lunch and took her to visit her great-grandmother and she was still whiny! Daycare said she ate her usual lunch, but after that my mother couldn't get her to eat or drink anything. She took a nap and woke up with a fever and threw up!!!

When I got to her at 6pm, her fever was slightly over 100 and she was flushed and looked terrible!!! I gave her a dose of Tylenol to bring the fever down, and, two hours later, she was running around the house, pink and perky, like nothing was wrong! She even asked for an ice cream!!! She slept 12 hours and wake up looking great with no fever!!!

What is up with this???? Too much sun? I'm confused? Any experience with something like this?

TIA

Most likely a virus. They come on totally unexpected. Thankfully it was short lived.

It could have been any number of things. We recently went to Disney and the heat did me in. I didn't throw up, but did have the other for about 24 hours. I didn't want to eat anything, but did force myself to drink. The heat can really do a number on you. Was daycare and her great grandmothers house air conditioned?? Could have been a virus, could have been heat, could have even been something she ate! Just be happy it is gone already!!

My sister was supposed to come up for the weekend in May. But that Friday one of her kids had a fever and was not playing. She said he looked really sick. She gave him some Tylenol, he took a nap and woke up feeling better. They stayed home on Friday but Saturday morning he woke up fine, no fever and ate his whole breakfast. So they ended up coming up for a visit on Saturday and stayed till Monday. He was fine the whole time!

That sounds like the same thing your dd had.

Well, my DH just called! She just ate a HUGE plate of pancakes and they are in the car and she's singing away in the back!!!! So, whatever it was has gone as quickly as it come!!!

I'm sooo happy that she's fine, but, boy, do they make you worry and wonder, don't they?

My ds has had a fever off and on now for about 24 hours. It ranges from 37.8C to 39.1C. He isn't complaining about anything but is sleeping alot.

We were thinking at one point that maybe a tooth was coming in somewhere. But, at this point, it hasn't come back, she's not complaining, so, I'm just going to write it off as one of those "kid things" and just watch her!

Paula, how is your DS feeling today?

By Paulas on Tuesday, July 5, 2005 - 10:47 am:

Still has a fever of around 101.84F. He has tonsilitis. He's on antibodics and is taken motrin/tylenol every 2 hrs for the fever.

Thanks for asking, Angela.
