Jumpy things that hang from the door jam........

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2005: Jumpy things that hang from the door jam........
By Dana on Wednesday, June 15, 2005 - 07:45 am:

You know those swing-like things that babies use to jump in? I don't know what they are called.

My question is how do they attach up top for jumping? I am picturing it attaching to the wood of a door jam, but then I think "what if that breaks?"

I think my DS would love this chair but I don't know where I would hang it. Even the doors w/ that wooden molding up top are in my hallway and not where I can sit and keep an eye on him. Is there any other way to attach it to something?

They have doorless ones

I used this and the trim over the door waS plastic. It never broke.

Johnny Jumpup

Jumpy thing that sits on the floor

LOL When I read the subject line, I was picturing some dangling spiders or something.

Jolly jumpers are what we have here, and they are the best!! My hubby put 2 pieces of wood on the sides of a bulk head in the kitchen, because it would give them a lot more room to jump than in any doorway in our home. I used to put paper and paint on the floor under their feet, and they made some pretty cool pictures! :)

Both my children LOVED them!

By Kaye on Wednesday, June 15, 2005 - 09:49 am:

yes it hangs on the molding and yes it can break. It is one of those toys, like walkers, that can be very unsafe if used wrong. Check your molding for strength, never leave the baby unattended. The can also bang into the side of the door way. It is best if you can find a wide door frame to be in. We had one, I only used it a couple of times with each kid, none seemed to love it and it made me fearful! They got that same jumpy action with their exersaucers.

I was fearful of it until I put my body weight on it and pulled down and that thing seemed sturdy as ever. It worked great when DD started crawling and I had a few things to do. I would just put her in it and she would literally jump all day if I let her.

They do have new ones out, i've seen them at Walmart that don't attach to the door and they seem to be a bit more fun. They have toys attached to them like walkers do to help keep them occupied. I'll probably get one of those next.

Hailey loved hers!!!

We have an old Jonny Jump Up. Robin didn't care for it, but Randy loved it! It was great in the kitchen doorway while I was making dinner when he was little. He outgrew it at about 8 months, and he was walking by 9 months. I have seen the new doorless ones in pictures and they look great! I'd probably get one of those if I had another child (which I'm not! lol).

I didn't want to use the hanging one (no moldings around convenient doorways, so we got the Fisher Price stationery Jumperoo. LOVE it.

GET A JUMPEROO!!! You don't need a door and it's safer...won't get fingers smashed in between the jumper and the sides of a door. CONNOR LOVED IT!!!

By Dana on Wednesday, June 15, 2005 - 10:47 pm:

Marcia, that's funny. What a fun idea to get footy paintings while they play.

Thanks all! That jumperoo looks great. Now I just need to figure out where in the world I have space for it. Mrsheidi, does it store well so that I can pull it out only at playtime or is that too difficult/time consuming.

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, June 15, 2005 - 11:39 pm:

My mom said my sisters and I LOVED the Johnny Jump Up, so when I had a baby, I went and got one! Neither kid liked it! LOL! Go figure! They thought it was fun, when I bounced it, but they never tried themselves!

I think now, I would get the one that sits on the floor. It does seem safer.

By Mrsheidi on Thursday, June 16, 2005 - 09:42 am:

I didn't put it away for storage...he used it too often anyway. It is a space hog sometimes, but I used to think that about his swing...both were lifesavers however, especially if I wanted to get some cooking done!!!

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, June 16, 2005 - 11:00 am:

My older daughter loved the swing, and I usually put her in it, when I needed to be running around and not paying a whole lot of attention to her. It was nice.

My younger daughter, tolerated the swing, but never really loved it! We took it down much sooner, than we had for the older one.

There was just a recall on these today!

By Mrsheidi on Thursday, June 16, 2005 - 07:22 pm:

It's the doorway johnny jumper, not the jumperoo that's being recalled...fyi

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, June 16, 2005 - 09:17 pm:

Description: The recalled baby jumpers have a blue canvas seat, yellow straps, and a blue plastic clamp that attaches to an interior door frame. The recalled unit is the Bright Starts Jammin’ Jumper with model number 6607, which can be found on a white warning label on the canvas seat. The words “Bright Starts” are printed on the plastic housing that contains the clamp. The jumper was sold with a play mat that makes sounds when the child jumps on it.

Thanks for all the input. We were given an exersaucer today just by chance. DS is not as amused as I was hoping. Got about 1 min out of him. I'm sure that will change as he ages, but oh it is SOOOOOO big. Right now it is sitting in front of my back door. It was in the middle of my small square kitchen but I kept stepping back into it while at the sink. He better start liking it within the week or I think I will have to get rid of it. This boy of mine is no fool. He will always prefer Mommy over any toy LOL. Give it 14 yrs and I know that will change too.

I think I will keep my eyes open for a jumperoo style thing that someone is getting rid of. I'm so frugal...I so rarely purchase new baby toys since they outgrow them so fast.
