Baby Grinding Teath

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2005: Baby Grinding Teath
By Newmommy2 on Thursday, June 2, 2005 - 12:57 pm:

My daughter is 7 months old and has her 4 front teeth and has started grinding them. I can't stand it. It drives me crazy. I've read it is normal but is there anything I can do to stop it?

The only thing I can say is call a pediatric dentist. I've been grinding my teeth my whole life, and my children do it. I know older children and adults can be given mouth guards to prevent it at night, and stress causes it in older children and adults, but I of course that's not the same for a baby. Anyway, as long as her ped or a ped dentist isn't concerned, it should pass.

Connor has been doing it off and on for about 2-3 months. I think they are just experimenting with their new pearly whites!!!

Fraser did the same thing, drove me absolutely nuts. I don't really know when she stopped, but she doesn't do it anymore. I think it is just getting used to those new things in their mouths where once it was only gums. It must be a strange sensation for them.

Oh Kristin, I know EXACTLY how you feel. Rylee did the same thing, and it drove me CRAZY. I learned to try my brst to ignore it, because the more she saw that it got to me, the more she did it. Once she noticed that it didn't bother me, and that I wasn't saying anything about it, she eventually stopped. Good luck:)

my son grinded his teeth nearly down to nothing, we got concerned when we could see the "bottom" hard to explain, but the dentist said not too worry even the best of grinders can't damage the permanent teeth! Sure enough as soon as his big ones grew in he still chomps a bit, but no damage to his teeth!
