Too funny

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Too funny

Here's how the conversation went:

DS: Mom, we're getting ants in our house!

ME: Oh, dear. Time to spray.

DS: Why are they coming in the house?

ME: It might be too hot outside for them.

DS: Well, let me put sunscreen on them. That
will help.

Can you just imagine? The image cracked me up! LOL

Oh, and as a side note, I spray with mint extract. I don't use poisons inside the house.

Cute! Mint extract kills them?

By Enchens on Monday, June 16, 2008 - 10:28 pm:

Yes, Dawn. It's a neuro-toxin. If you look up some poison free products, some will contain mint extract.

I discovered this after I had ds five years ago. We were in an apartment that had every kind of bug on the premises. He was starting to crawl and put things in his mouth, and I didn't want to spray with poison. That's when I found the info on mint extract. I dilute it just a tiny bit because it's so expensive. And I only use it indoors. I've been trying to grow my own mint, but since I don't have a green thumb, I haven't had much luck. lol

Wow. I didn't know that! We put out ant traps, when we get the yearly ants in the bathroom (why there? I don't know.), but it takes awhile to do them all in. I can't really use poison that I set out somewhere, because of the dog. Even with the mint stuff, I think we would keep the bathroom door shut for a while.

Nancy, my dd(5)and I noticed an ant on our kitchen counter. She asked the same question, so I told her they were coming in because of the heat. I relayed to her what your son said about the sunscreen on the ants. She laughed so hard!

Your son sounds delightful with a great imagination!:-)

How cute!

I also didn't know about the mint extract. We usually have one minor round of ants in the spring, and ours was last week. I always use my spider 'poison' though, as it works well. I just quarantine the area until well after it's dry, for pets mainly. That's something to remember for having little ones around though. Do you know if the mint can harm pets?

Yeah, Dawn, we get them upstairs in the bathrooms, too. I don't know why either.

Nicki, lol.

Reds, I don't know if mint would be harmful to pets. I never really thought about it. Hmmm....
