Pregnancy question. My tum is huge!

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2005: Pregnancy question. My tum is huge!
By Clarabel on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 01:21 am:

I'm 18 weeks and my tum is enormous!
Everyone says you get big faster with the second one.
I have a co-worker who is due 2 weeks before me and it is hard to tell she's pregnant (it's her first). She is heavier than me to begin with, I'm (was) petite.
Another woman I know is due 3 weeks after me and is wearing skinny jeans..and a belt!
Really can't tell if you don't know.
Someone asked me if I am 7 months and I said I was going to punch him.
My midwife said everything is normal and we heard one heart beat but can't be certain about
multiples until the ultrasound which is the week after next.
What's going on?
Anyone have a similar experience?

I did that too!! I started showing right after found out I was pregnant. I got big as whale with all except my first.( I have had 4). Don't worry unless the Dr. says there is something to worry about. Big does not always mean more than one. I had only one each pregnancy and I was huge!!!!

My tummy was showing in the first few weeks too on my second child. I look at my 8 month photo of first born and compare it to my 5 month of second. And my 8th month photo of second, well, it was WAY PAST my 8 month photo of first. My belly was HUGE. But from behind, I was still "skinny" LOL.

You guys are scaring me...LOL! I just had my first last June and I'm still trying to get back into "shape", or at least something that resembles the old me.
Clarabel...sorry you look/feel huge. Stay active, drink lots of water, and just keep focused on this beautiful life you have inside you!

With DS you could only tell I was pregnant from the side or from my waddle. :) From the back I still looked "normal". I didn't really start showing until about 7 months. I was back in my Pre-baby clothes pretty fast and it felt wonderful!

The second time around I showed much faster and it was obvious I was pregnant.

Fortunatly I won't know how it is with the 3rd, I'm happy with my two!:)

It happened to me too. And my doctor put it like this..." your body is just saying 'Oh this again' and you show earlier with the next pregnancy" On a side note..Drink plenty of water, Heidi is correct. I heard recently that if you drink lots of water it gives your skin elasticity (sp) and you may not get many (or any) stretch marks. I haven't got any, this pregnancy, and drink like 10 glasses every day.

By Rayelle on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 06:36 pm:

I showed earlier with each one. With my third I even measured big at the doctors so I had ultrasound after ultrasound and they said she would probably be over 9 lbs. She was just over 8lbs like the other two. I gained all over with my boy and just my face and tummy with my girls. Good luck!

On this subject, I also wonder about that woman I know who is having her second and still has a waist.(The skinny jeans) She said she continues to use her stomach muscles and is doing alot of lifting and she just built a jungle gym. She said she was doing those activities before she got pregnant so it was ok to continue. I always thought that applied to other kinds of exercise like cycling or yoga but that the stomach muscles need to relax so they can stretch and make room for the growing baby.
She was also drinking a beer so I guess everyone has different choices, right?

By My2cuties on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 09:54 pm:

The excercising is okay as long as you did it pre-pregnancy..I push mowed my in-laws lawn Monday and I walk about 1/2 mile every day. Not hurting me or baby any and I am 35 weeks. But the beer... I guess everyone has there own choices to make, but then again people may say that about me because I like the occasional hot buffalo wing..:) Good Luck and don't worry about everyone else, if you are doing and feeling well, that is all that matters

Beware of one heartbeat and ultrasounds. LOL.

I did the same thing. I had 3 ultrasounds, an amino, and my twins were never found til they were born.

It can happen to you! LOL.

By My2cuties on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 10:04 pm:

How is that possible, Pat?!?! Don't even joke like that, Katelyn is always saying there is a boy and girl in my belly. lol

By Conni on Thursday, April 14, 2005 - 08:27 am:

Uhhhh, my tummy is still big and I am not pregnant I dont think I am. I look about 5mos pregnant once a month tho.

Enjoy- it will be over with before you know it and then your BABY will be 5yo. sniff sniff

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy. Let us know what the ultrasounds show. ;)

By Tink on Thursday, April 14, 2005 - 12:34 pm:

I was the same way. I showed so much earlier with my son. With my oldest, I wore my regular jeans until I was 6 months along. I think I had to start wearing my maternity pants as soon as the test showed those two pink lines! Of course, my son was a big boy, 9lbs, 4oz and three weeks early. My ob said he would have been close to 11lbs if I'd gone full term.

By Clarabel on Thursday, April 14, 2005 - 01:34 pm:

How in the world can they not see twins with an ultrasound?
I've heard of the heartbeats beating together so it sounds like one.

Well I will find out soon enough.

Candis, Freedom is always saying I'm having two babies too, a brother and a sister.
At 35 wks of course you know if it's one baby. Are you having a boy or girl, or do you know? You could have it at any second, I bet you're ready to pop.

btw..I wouldn't worry about the hot wings,
esp. if you are planning on bf , you know all that fat goes right into the baby, they need it.
Have a hot fudge sundae too! ;)

By Ilovetom on Thursday, April 14, 2005 - 02:36 pm:

It happened. :) They were on top of each other. The doctor said one ten pounder and I got 2 five pounders.

Oh, and they are still a surprise- they started driving last month.

Good surprises. :)

Well I'm about 21 weeks and I don't think my tummy is much bigger than the last time, however, my butt sure is. :) LOL! I just spoke to DH about going on a beach vacation next Jan. He told great you have 5 months to get yourself back into a bikini - like that's going to happen!

By My2cuties on Saturday, April 16, 2005 - 06:31 pm:
