Teething pains at 9 wks?.........

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2005: Teething pains at 9 wks?.........

DS is not happy. His mouth is nothing but spit bubbles. His fists are in there too. He will eat til full, but keep rooting on me if I hold him. He cries and I can't figure it out. He is fed, clean and burped.

He had his shots the other day, but the reactions to that appear to have left him. No fever now, I can touch his leg area without him crying or wincing.

So do you think he feels teeth growing or is there something else I need to consider?

Dana, Jeff cut his first tooth @ 4 months. He was teething @ 3 months. I suppose it is possible. Have you checked his mouth for signs of thrush or anything else? Poor little guy!

Dana, it could be teething. My 1st ds started teething around 2 months and had his first tooth at 4 months. Your ds is acting exactly like my ds did during this time. Unfortunately, every tooth he got was an ordeal.

I would just keep an eye on him and not worry too much if there are no other symptoms.

Did you talk to your ped about colic. He may have a tummy ache and is trying to soothe himself w/ you and his little fingers. Try the drops for baby gas and see what happens.

Okay well I think you just have to do a process of elimation. If he starts to run a temp take him to the doc, could be ears. But it could be teething or it could be gas. If you think it is gas, lay him on his back and make his little legs move like he is running. This helps a lot, I did it with all my babies for fun, they loved it. I would just talk and smile with them, "you're running, now walking, oh look hop hop hop", etc you get the pic.

For teething, does just chewing on your fingers make him better? If so get a cold wet washcloth and let him chew, or rub baby tylenol right on his gums.

My son did this from 6 weeks on. We thought he had to be teething really early. Unfortunately, he didn't cut a tooth until almost 8 months. We never did figure out what was going on. He was just a chewer and a drooler. I hope you figure out what it is soon. Ditto Kaye.

Not sure on the gas issue. I started giving him the gas meds last week with most of his feedings. That made a difference for that problem. With this fussing, it is different than what he was doing when I was certain it was gas.

Thanks for all the ideas. Guess I'll just keep watching and see what happens if anything. I hate watching a baby teeth. Poor DD had the little white bumps at 3 months and suffered teething pains until her first tooth at 14 months! And each tooth thereafter was just as traumatic. I was hoping that this little fellow would just "get a whole bunch at one time" without all the pain.
