Our first cold..but is it allergies????

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2005: Our first cold..but is it allergies????
By Katiesmommy on Sunday, April 3, 2005 - 10:21 am:

Katie came down yesterday night with congestion and a cough. No fever. The nose is very runny and clear. Last night and this morning she seems a bit better, but still has the congestion and runny nose but no coughing. She acts normal and everything, maybe drinking a bit less, but still eats. I am using the vaporizer and some infant decongestant. How long does this stuff linger? How do you know if its allergies or a cold? Oh, I just HATE her being sick...being a mom sure is stressful!!! She is almost 9 months. Thanks.

Usually if the drainage is clear its allergies. It sounds like allergies. It could linger a while if it is allergies. If she gets fever or coloured drainage obvioulsy its more than allergies. Hopefully more moms can give you better advice!

Probably allergies, but it really doesn't matter because you just treat the symptoms anyway. (Unless she starts to run a fever). I would try an antihistimine/decongestant to help with the runny nose and the congestion--call you ped. for a recommendation. Hope she feels better soon! And...wow--she made it a long time with her first bout of the sniffles.

Connor's having the same thing. I think it's just a cold. He doesn't have a fever and there really isn't much you can do except give the bulb syringe a try. Sometimes, there's a reason why their nose is running...their body is trying to get rid of whatever is bothering them.
