JUST GOT HOME.....

And I have a major HEADACHE because I attended my first public school talent show. Now I LOVE the kids and I know they should be encouraged. But...OH....some children should be taught to lip-sync!!! :-)

I clapped and applauded every version of "Tomorrow" (one child sang it, one child played it on the flute) laughed lightly at comical attempts and skits performed with stilted voices and missed lines, prayed the small little girl atop the wobbly gymnastics pyramid wouldn't fall, and watched two, admittedly really cute, children dance off tempo to a tango and I remembered NOT TO LAUGH when the young magician couldn't find the scarves attached inside his sleeve and then I was appropriately astounded by his "magic" of course!!! My jaw aches from my "How wonderful you are" Mommy smile. And my ears are ringing/aching! My older child had several friends who were in it this year, she wants to be in it next year and my younger child fell asleep in my lap, so my legs lost circulation the second half of the show.

THEN....after the show is over...and they've had their finale.....(and I am thinking "wonderful show" and "thank God it's over" at the same time) the Principal comes up on stage and hands EACH performer INDIVIDUALLY some type of certificate or something saying they were in the show. So, of course, we sat and watched each child go up on stage individually to be recognized and applauded over again. There were 33 acts and some of them WERE very good. Two piano players and one little boy played the guitar and sang. But even though they were cute, and I appreciate their darling efforts, 5:30-8:30 is just too long a show for "Amateur Night" (in my opinion). Anyway, after socializing a little and telling everyone how talented their child is, I got my own little "Prima Donnas" home (who are already planning their act for next year) and tucked them in and now I am going to go have a drink and/or a TYLENOL! Oh, my aching head!!!! ****applause, applause****:-) At least the kids will sleep late in the morning. :-)

I have been to countless *talent* shows like that over the years. The important thing is that you DID go. Grin and bear it, it's a rite of passage as a mom. LOL

PS - what are you drinking? LOL
