HAD TO DISCIPLINE DD TODAY

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2005: HAD TO DISCIPLINE DD TODAY
By Meltonmom on Friday, March 11, 2005 - 12:51 pm:

So today I picked my precious darling just-turned-5 year old up from preschool. We have a church in rural GA and beside it is a cow pasture. The cows are very tame and sometimes the kids go to see them. We are enjoying some sunny weather (finally!) and she wanted to go and see the cows. I told her we would, but first I had to put some gas in the car so we drove to the gas station. I always use my debit card so I don't have to leave the kids in the car while I pump gas or while I pay. Anyway, I got out of the car to put the debit card into the slot on the gas tank and put the pump in the car and in that time DD gets out of her carseat and climbs into the front seat!!! Well, fortunately, I had the car keys and the car was stopped but still.....disobedient and potentially dangerous behavior (she could have put the car into gear, locked herself in the car, etc.) so after yelling for her to get into the back and back into her seat, I had to tell her we are not going back to see the cows after all and we came home because she disobeyed Mommy. She cried all the way home and tried literally everything to get me to change my mind including the tearful plea: "But THE COWS will be sad, Mommy, the COWS will miss me!" So cute. And I wanted to give in, but we made it home. She is still mad and pouting but she is eating her lunch. ****sigh**** I stand strong but it sure is uncomfortable at times. It is a beautiful day here and I wanted to see the cows too! Oh well.

Good for you for not giving in! It sure is hard sometimes though, isn't it?! I bet your DD will think twice before doing that again.

Way to go. It is never to early for children to learn that actions have consequences. There is no way she could really comprehend all the potential dangers involved, but she will almost certainly remember not being allowed to see the cows because she broke a rule.

It is an absolute rule - mommies are always the Wicked Witch of the West. If you are lucky, daddy comes in for some of that too, but it is usually mommy.

Good for you!!!!! Way to go!!!! She will remember that you did what you said you would and think twice the next time. :)

That is exactly what I would have done. Best way to do it.

Good job! I'm sure she remember this! But her plea was cute, they sure try hard don't they?

Awww, didn't that just melt your heart? Good for you not to give in, though! Sometimes, you just have to do that!
