Mommy and Me Swimming?

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2005: Mommy and Me Swimming?

I'm going to start taking Connor to "Mommy and Me" swimming time. Have any of you had experience with this? Did you just use swim diapers? Or, did you add swim trunks too?

I took Lexie to a swimming group for a while. In our group all of the kids had swimsuits on in addition to swim diapers. I don't really see any real reason to have swim trunks if you don't want to. I think we all just liked to dress the kids up in their cute little suits. :)

There was a post not too long ago about someone looking for rubber pants for swimming classes. Their pool required a swim diaper covered with rubber pants and then the swim suit. I can't seem to find it now, but it seems like their pool set requirements on what they had to do. You might want to check with your pool. But I would say that they would at least want a swim diaper and suit??

We used the Huggies swim diapers. When DS was really small I used to put a a tee-shirt on him because I was worried he would get cold. I was the only one who did this and felt kind of silly so I gave it up after a few months. Now I put a pair of swim trunks over his diaper, only because someone gave them to me and I think they're cute.

One thing I found with my nephew in a pool...he was slippery!!! You put your hands mostly on his back and chest and sides, and I found it hard to hold onto him. I was afraid I'd drop him and he'd swallow huge amounts of water and be scared of pools forever! So I would bring a form fitting t-shirt for your son just in case you have issues holding onto his wet, slippery body like I did!

Heidi, I'm taking Rylee to an Infant/Parent swim class and she has wear a swim diaper, rubber pants, and a bathing suit. I would check and see what they require first. I would probably put a suit over the diaper though.

Yeah, they only require a swim diaper. Nothing underneath it, but just wondering if people put anything over it. I might go and check out a class before our session starts. (We start March 15th!)

I took a mommy and me swim class with both my boys. I put a regular swimsuit over the swim diaper. Most of the boys in our class did this.

We did a Mommy and Me class and DH did some of the classes with DS. We used the huggies swim diaper's with his swimsuit over it.
Sometimes he wore a pair of Speedo swim trunks with a built in swim diaper, they worked out great!

JMHO but a diaper really is underware, I know the swim diapers are colored and all. But I think it looks terribly tacky to not wear a swimsuit, especially in a public pool.
