Pear juice allergy?

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2005: Pear juice allergy?

I gave my 7mth dd diluted pear juice not a half an hour ago for the first time and now all around her mouth is red and rashy! She loves pears out of the jar and eats them frequently. Could the rash be caused by the juice? She seemed to really like it.

I guess it could be. I never gave my kids much juice, and my daycare kids don't get any until from me until they're about 2, and even that's very rare. They usually drink either milk or water. I'd say if you give it to her again and it has the same reaction, it's the juice. Either try diluting it more (like 1:4 or even less) or drop it completely. Sorry if I'm not much help. :) Good luck.

Was it 100% pear juice or were there other juice flavors in it? If she had had pears before I wouldn't think she would be allergic to the juice but I'm no pro!

It could be an allergy, or it may be a case of sensitive skin. Juice is very acidic. Both my kids have food allergies. I wish I could type more but I have to wake my kids and get them off to school. Well, DS anyway, DD is sick. :(
