Got ds's biopsy results back

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2005: Got ds's biopsy results back
By Debbie on Monday, February 14, 2005 - 10:20 am:

He has acid reflux so severe, that basically the acid is eating away at his stomach, which is why he has the abrasions. He also has inflamation in his esophagus. So, we are starting him on Prevacid today. It should heal his stomach and esophagus. We go back to the GI in 6 weeks. I am just so glad that it is not something more severe. I am just mad at myself for not following my mommy instincts and insisting that he see a GI doctor sooner.

ohhhh :( well gl on your son. Are they going to do the surgery or is this something that they outgrow?

By Rayanne on Monday, February 14, 2005 - 10:49 am:

AWWWW. Poor baby. I hope that the medicine helps him feel better and that it works really fast.
Don't be so hard on yourself. You got him the help that he needed.

Both of my children suffered from GERD, we were lucky with dd & the first med worked. With my ds it took SEVERAL different types of meds & ultimately he was put in a special formula & 2 types of meds.
If the first med doesn't work you may want to have them check for an allergy, ds was allergic to both cows milk & soy milk, which made the reflux worse.
Another trick we were told to do was not to let him lay down right after eating.
Good luck.

Poor Sweetie, I had acid reflux during my last pregnancy it is no fun. Can't imagine what it would be like for a little one. Hope he feels better soon.

Prevacid works wonders! I have a hiatus hernia, and have been dealing with reflux for many years. I used to take zantac, but it never lasted as long as it should. I had to take 150mg 2x/day, and sometimes still had to use maalox. My doc put me on Prevacid in the fall, and I felt so much better the first day! I only take it every 2 or 3 days, and I feel great! Hopefully your little one will have the same results.

Debbie, I have been following your posts and I hope your ds feels better soon. Poor guy! :(

By Debbie on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 - 10:24 am:

Thank you everyone. I am hoping the prevacid starts working soon. He vomited a lot last night. His doctor said it would take about a week for us to start seeing an improvement. It can't be soon enough for him or me.

Debbie hope he is feeling better.
My son who is 10 was just diagnosed with gastritis. He is also on prevacid and it seems to be working for him.
