Itchy Feet???

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2005: Itchy Feet???
By Boxzgrl on Friday, February 11, 2005 - 11:17 am:

I have no idea why DD's feet are itchy. She's been doing this since yesterday afternoon. Saying "Owie Owie" and scratching at the bottom of her feet, rubbing them on the carpet. Last night she woke up in the middle of the night because her feet were bothering her. She has been outside a few times barefoot this week but we have nothing but grass. Nothing itchy around here that I know of. I dont know what to do to help her. Theres no rash or anything. They are just a little red from her scratching them. Any advice?

A little moisturizer or some 1% hydrocortizone cream should do it. The grass may have irritated her feet, even though she doesn't show signs of a rash.

Hope she feels better.

You may have stuff other than grass (like insects) that you don't know about. You might want to think about not letting her go barefoot (I know, I know, it is so much fun and so much easier - but still). Hydrocortizone should help either way.

I was about Kaitlyn's age when eczema showed up. It is only on the palms of my hands and the soles of my feet. If I have a flare-up, rubbing them against something just a little scratchy, like the carpet, feels really good and it will wake me up at night. Hydrocortizone should help at her age, especially if there is no rash.

Watch for hand/foot/mouth disease. She may be saying they are itchy for lack of another word.

Also kids' toes and feet are very sensitive. Two of my kids had "issues" with the seam at the end of their socks. I had to turn the socks inside out or buy seamless because the seam rubbed against their toes.

I thought my kids were being pains but it is actually a common thing with toddlers through early elementary schools. :) Just a thought.

Hope dd is feeling better soon!

Check for tiny slivers, she may have gotten into some bark dust. Also could be a grass allergy. Like the above, hydrocortizone if allergy, you may also want to try some benadryl especially if it is keeping her up at night.

I had itchy feet as a kid and still do! I am actaully allergic to the rubber in shoes. The best thing to do is to make sure your dd's feet are dry and she wears white socks with shoes and sneakers.

Try a little baking soda in a warm bath (or foot bath).....I get this sometimes, and I'm not sure why. I know it happened once after I walked on the carpet (after vacuuming) when I had used a carpet deodorizer....the baking soda should help with the itching, though, or even use Aveeno oatmeal bath if you have some.

I have itchy feet and hands and sometimes it is unbearable! It is especially bad after I wal outside, I have no idea why. But I do know it is caused my allergies. I have to take allegra D twice a day sometimes more. When it wears off my palms and bottoms of my feet begin to itch again really bad. I do not know what it is exactly that I am allergic to though. If nothing else helps maybe ask her doctor about zyrtec (my kids take it) or something that she can take for allergy. I hope she feels better!

It could be allergies to the grass.
