Trina Cat booster seat question

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2005: Trina Cat booster seat question
By Feona on Wednesday, January 26, 2005 - 05:49 am:

We got the Britax Husky which we love! But our car is so small. It is a midsize and I don't think ds has enough foot room in a year or so.

Which booster do you recommed? Or are they all the same? Can he get a booster without a back or are they uncomfortable? He is almost 5 and tall like a 7 year old.

The Husky goes up to 80 lbs. and is made for big kids, so you could keep him in it for awhile yet. How much does your son weigh and how tall is he? It's recommended kids stay in a harnessed seat until at least 4 yrs. and 40 lbs.. If you decide to transition him to a booster there are many nice ones on the market now. Backless boosters are safe as long as the vehicle provides head support (head rest or high seat back) but they don't offer any sleep support. We use them for carpooling, etc. but my kids are mainly in high back boosters. They claim they're more comfortable. A belt positioning booster requires a seating position that has both a lap and shoulder belt. Since your son is tall for his age I think I'd go for either the Britax Body Guard or Parkway. I believe they have the highest height limit - 60". Weight limit up to 100 lbs.. Both also have side impact protection. My kids are both in Body Guards and like them. (See the pic in my profile.) The Parkway just came out. Both have different covers to pick from.

If they're under 4'9" they need a booster.

Oooh! The Parkway looks comfy. Couldn't they come up with better covers like the Body Guard though? You are rubbing off on me, Trina. I want to order one right now! LOL!;)

LOL, Eve! The Parkway has 3 covers to choose from. The one shown above is my least favorite. The BG does have cool covers to pick from, doesn't it?! B picked the brightest one! LOL! I'm itching to order a Granite Parkway (dark gray plush cover) but we don't *need* one. No Trina, no more car seats! LOL!

LOL, Trina. You know, the Granite cover was the one I was looking at, but it's hard to tell what the fabric is like. Lots of places have free shipping and the price is not bad at all. I love the cup holders too! Why couldn't they make the paisley cover for it? Darn! *I want one!*

Do you know if Babies R Us sells them? I might call them and check. I have some stuff to return to Sears. Hmm...

Babies R Us has them, Trina! Want to take a drive over sometime? Tee hee.:)

Sure, I'm game! We're about due for another Mommy Break day, don't you think?! I'm free this weekend. :)

We have the backless version of the Graco Turbo Booster. I bought it for my now 11yo ds last year because he was 80lbs and his booster at the time maxed out at 80lbs. (He's STILL sitting at 80lbs! lol) He likes it, says it's comfortable and he likes to put little things in the cupholders. There's a big difference between your 5yo ds and my 11yo ds, though. You might want the back on it for comfort. My 11yo doesn't fall asleep in the car anymore (Darn!). Jmo :)
