Allergic?

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2005: Allergic?

Whenever Rylee drinks anything with apples juice in it, she gets a horrible rash down there. Yesterday, she had Aplle Grape Juice (for toddlers) and within an hour she had a horrible rash. It is a little better today. She can eat applesauce, so I do not understand why it's just the apple juice. This has happened before, so I know it wasn't the grape in the juice. Is this an allergic reaction or is there another reason for it? I will be testing other juices when she is all better to see what she can and cannot drink.

It may, in fact, not be apple juice, but rather grape juice. From what I've read, white grape juice is used as an additive/dilutant in many fruit juices. It seems strange to me that a person could eat applesauce with no problem but be allergic to the juice. I'd look at the label and see what else is in the juice.

But, I think you are on the right road, waiting until the reaction is gone and then testing one juice or fruit at a time.

Are you diluting it? I had to dilute juice (of any kind) for my boys until they were about 4 or 5. Good luck. Kids and their rashes...

I do dilute it A LOT. There is more water than juice, in anything that she drinks.

My dd gets horrible diaper rashes quite often; I sometimes think it is the juice, but only half the time does she get a rash, so I haven't figured out what causes it. I also have found that diaper rash creams make it worse, so I am curious how you treat hers. I usually just have to let them run their course; I have literally tried all the creams out there, and they seem to work for a day or so and then all the sudden seem to break her out worse. Please let me know if there is something that works for your dd's!

I use Boudreaux's Butt Paste. It works pretty good. Some days are better than others. I can use it one day and the rash will be gone the next day, but with this one now, it has only gotten a little better. I think within two days it will be gone.
