:) The Cast is off!!! :)

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2005: :) The Cast is off!!! :)
By Palmbchprincess on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 - 06:31 pm:

We went today to have the walking cast removed. Maddie is doing pretty well, walking, but keeping her leg stiff. She doesn't want anyone to mess with it too much, since it's still sore from muscle stiffness, but she got to take her first real bath in 6 weeks!! Does anyone know how long the stiffness will last, or what I can do to make it feel better? We're giving her Motrin tonight, and just letting her try it out on her own. Still, we're SO happy to not have a cast anymore!!!

Im so happy its off!
I bet it felt sooo good for her to
take that bath! I bet it will take a few weeks
for the stiffness to go away.

Congrats! I bet that was the best bath ever! I'm glad she healed fine and everything is ok :)

I'm glad the cast is off and I bet that bath felt good! She just needs to use her leg and it will gradually get better.

Great to hear! What a relief! I have no idea what to suggest, just that it will probably take time.

By Feona on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 - 07:27 am:

Amazing! She doesn't get any PT?

Great news!

By Karen~moderator on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 - 07:38 am:

I'm surprised also that she wouldn't get any P.T. The stiffness should work itself out the more she uses it, but the muscles, etc. are weak from being immobilized and not used for so long. I'd definitely check into P.T.

WOO HOO! I would think the stiffness will go away in a week or so. My guess is they didn't do pt because of her age, little ones are just so resilient and bounce back so quick.

Great News. Bet she is sooo happy:)

I'm so happy for you, Crystal and Maddie! It's amazing how fast little ones heal. Did you ask the docs about what to do for the stiffness? Ditto the PT, even a few sessions to show you how to help her.

I'll bet she feels much freer now! Yay! :)

By Cat on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 - 12:19 pm:

Yeah!!! Hope she's doing well today. :)

By Palmbchprincess on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 - 12:53 pm:

Thanks everyone! She didn't need PT, she actually has very little muscle loss, just the stiffness. She woke up in pain last night, probably a cramp, but has been fine other than that. Hopefully, she'll be fully flexing the leg in the next few day. :)

YYYYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

By My2cuties on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 - 01:20 pm:

Thats awesome, I bet that feels so much better. Glad to hear there was not alot of muscle loss, maybe if she could eat some bananas it would help with the stiffness...I know it helps with cramps. HTH :)

By Emily7 on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 - 02:37 pm:

I am so glad that she is doing so great.

By Conni on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 - 03:24 pm:

What happened with the bed manufacturer?

Conni,
We are still dealing with that, waiting to see how her recovery goes. The CPSC called me today, and the rep is coming down from Dallas to investigate and take pictures. Hopefully, this will help prevent other children from getting hurt. :)
