Poor Christopher!

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive January-June 2005: Poor Christopher!
By Jelygu on Friday, December 31, 2004 - 08:33 pm:

He has been running a fever for two days. At its highest it was 101, although we have gotten it down from there both nights. Right now, after tylenol and a lukewarm bath, his temp is 97. He has also had diarhea, as much as three dirty diapers in half an hour!

My poor baby! He is asleep now, hopefully he will feel better in the morning. Also, I can't get him to drink water or perdialyte. I worry about him getting dehydrated.

What makes me so mad is that I called the dr and he never called back. What's the point of have a ped. if he doesn't answer my frantic first time mom calls?

Sorry the ped didn't call back, he should have at least called. My girls' ped does not consider 101 to be a fever, but the diarrhea is bad especially if he is not drinking. Just make sure he keeps peeing, that is how you can tell if he is not dehydrated. When my oldest was 2 she had a fever of 104, it is very scary. Don't forget to rotate tylenol then motrin every 2 hours if you need to if his temp gets real high in the middle of the night. Does he have a cough or anything or is it just a temp?

Poor thing, I hope he gets better soon. I am dealing with a cough in both of my girls right now, but no fever..thank God..that scares me the most.

Try the pedialyte popsicles. My dks will take those when no other liquid is even considered. I'm really sorry about your pediatrician. Does he/she offer a secondary number for an on-call Dr? Motrin can often bring down a fever that Tylenol doesn't touch. And it lasts 6-8 hours which means it can last as long as he will sleep.

Ditto! Our ped always had us give motrin, then 3 hours later Tylenol, and keep rotating that way. You do need to be concerned about dehydration. Sounds like he's got a nasty virus. I'm sorry he's sick - hope he's better soon, and also that *you* don't get it!

Oh poor baby! HOpe he had a better day today.

He feels much better, and doesn't have a fever anymore. No more diarhea either thank goodness! thanks for all the thoughts!

I'm glad he is better. There is nothing worse than a sick kid. Sarah had a rotavirus when she was 7 months old. Nasty diarrhea, most likely nasty cramps. Pain seemed to come in waves. She chowed down the pedialyte, though! I think it really helped.
