Crossing eyes

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive July-December 2004: Crossing eyes

My dd has never had a problem with her eyes being crossed, but lately that is what she has been doing. I am wondering if I should take her to see her Ped. or if this is something she is doing to see her nose or be funny. She only does it rarely, but sometimes I see her doing it with her lips pooched out and when she touches her nose. Any ideas if this is just so she can see her own face? I laugh because it is so cute, but if this is serious I don't want to laugh at her! Thanks

Is this your younger dd? From your profile she'll be 18 months next month, right? It sounds like she's just trying to see her own face. Will she have an 18mo appointment? If you're concerned you can always call the ped's office. It does sound cute, though. :)

yes it's the 18 month old, She has an appointment on Dec. 13th for her 18 month check-up.

Be sure to ask your ped to check her. My dd was 17 months old when we noticed that her right eye crossed a bit and she began wearing glasses at 18 months because she had a lazy eye.

Definitely mention it and get it checked out. My DS was born crosseyed, and has had 5 eye surgeries. He was wearing bifocals at age 15 months. He no longer wears glasses though he still has a lazy eye.

Definitely talk to your ped. My oldest son had crossing eyes at about age 2, and my then pediatrician said "he just has a broad nose". For several reasons I didn't buy it and took him to a pediatric opthalamologist, who said the poor kid is so farsighted he can't see anything closer than 3 feet clearly. Glasses for my son, and a new pediatrician.
