TANTRUMS!!!!! (A bit of a vent!!)

My little blessings are in rare form today! EVERYTHING sparks a tantrum. They had tortilla crisp, which they snitched off the counter when I wasn't looking. Then they wanted something else, which I wouldn't let them have. Then they wanted juice, but apparently that changed while I was pouring it, and the juice was no longer good. Repeat this cycle for the last 5 hours, and you have my day. It's just one of those days where NOTHING makes them happy, and I cannot keep them entertained!! Any advice on dealing with tantrums? (Time out doesn't seem to work because they just kick and scream the whole time. I literally have to hold them to keep them still.)

hmmm...i just watch mine have his tantrum and carry on with my day..step over him a few times and act relaxed and as if he isnt there pretty much...he doesnt throw them for me anymore..hubby is the one that gets them most cuz they drive him nuts and it gets his attention.

Hugs Crystal! I think Kenna has a good suggestion. In the meantime, just do your best to keep your cool.

It must be the day! DD woke up very grumpy today and was throwing tantrums over nothing. She went down for her nap with no fights and slept for 4 hours! I guess she was tired.

When she starts with her tantrums I try to get her mind off of it by singing songs. She'll usually join in with the motions pretty quickly and by the end has forgotten what was so awful.

I'm actually reading a book I picked up from the library called "Making the Terrible Twos Terrific" by John Rosemond. It actually reflects between 18 months-3 years. IT a great book and has a ton of useful advice! Good luck to you, DD is hitting the terrible two stage, 6 months early! Were in the same boat!

Lots of hugs, Crys! I think ignoring them is a great idea. Even better is to walk out of the room (as long as they are safe) and wait until it stops. I hate these kinds of days. Give me a disgruntled employee or a deadline for a report any day over a day with unreasonable toddlers!

Sorry you are having a rough day. I agree that ignoring a tantrum is the best idea. I hope everything gets better!

I so remember those moments, vividly! I say take a break, even if its closing yourself in a room. I was a sucker for finding anything to shut'em up at the moment. SHHH...I didn't tell you that! LOL
It may be time for you to have a girls night out. Gosh, I give you so much credit twins would put me overboard. :)

Thanks everyone! Things got better later on in the day, though there was "We didn't take a nap" crankiness. I'm going to try and pick up that book, Melissa... anything to get me through these toddler years. (12 or so years from now I'll be complaining about the teen years!!)

Crystal, I can imagine Timmy times two. We have the same problems. It's sort of funny if you don't have to be the one dealing with it. I keep waiting for him to knock himself out as he throws himself to the floor. I just keep doing what I was doing and usually he stops pretty quickly. I only hope it keeps working with him.
