Need some helpful hints!

I need help on how to get my 3 year old to pee in a cup, for her 3 year physical. She is not wanting to and even cried when I even mentioned it. I would like to get this into the office asap, but they said if she is scared to just let her take it next year at her 4 year check-up..

I am just wondering if any moms have a brilliant idea on this, If I wait until next year I am wondering if she will act the same. Any Advice? Should I wait? Or any other ideas... Thanks :)

have them put what they call a hat in the toilet to catch the pee. It isn't a sterile specimen i don't think, but that will work. They use it to measure patients urine while they are in the hospital. If she won't pee in the cup and it is very important then a foley is the only other thing I can think of and I wouldn't consider that an option for my 3 year old.

my 3 year old wanted to pee in cups b/c she went with me to ob appointments and saw me pee in one for a few months. Maybee you can show her how and it won't seem so scary.

What about putting the cup inside a potty chair? Would she sit on the chair and go? We've never had to do this, so I can't imagine my DD would want to either. LOL!

If you put on some gloves and held the cup, would she go for you? Good luck!

With my kids we did it in the bathroom at the doctor's office. I had DD sit on the toilet as usual as I held the cup under her. Of course I got peed on, but we got a sample! LOL!

Good luck! Let us know what works.

Same story here as Trina. Dd thought it was so funny that I got peed on and she got a coupon for a kids meal at Chili's for peeing in the cup!! LOL It wasn't a big deal for us at all, so I have no suggestions for you, dd just did it without even questioning it.

The only thing I could think of is to have her pee in the training potty and pour it in the cup. But would that then make it unsterile and unable to use? I'm not sure.

Good luck!

Juli4 is right on - that is what our doc suggests for all of his young patients

We went through this not to long ago and we ended up NOT getting it. They said it wasn't a big deal so I didn't push it.

Good Luck!

I guess I'm just goofy. When my dd (age 3)had what I thought might be a bladder infection (but didn't thank the Lord), we went to the dr, I told her to hop on the pot and we were gonna play a game this time. What's the game she asked. I said that I was gonna try to catch her peepee in cup. She laughed and thought that was the silliest game. But I got enough for them to do what they had to do.

I don't think my kids have EVER had to pee in a cup!

LOL Thanks ladies! We will see, I am going to try maybe in the morning. I'll let you know how it goes.

I think we had a failed attempt at age 3. However, DD watched me have to pee in a cup at an appt and ever since she couldn't wait until she got to do it. She even wanted to do it at home just for fun. No problems ever since.

Waiting til 4 yr old appt is no big deal.
