4 week old with ear infection!

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive July-December 2004: 4 week old with ear infection!

Helen was screaming inconsolably for 8 hours. Took her to the doc this morning. Would you believe an ear infection! All the signs were there (except fever), but I never even thought of it because she's so young.
Doc gave her an antibiotic shot. We go back tomorrow for another one.
No fun ...

Ame, Jeff started getting ear infections very young also. He eventually ended up with 3 different sets of tubes in his ears, the first was when he was 10 months old. I hope your baby girl is feeling better real soon!

Poor little girl. I hope she gets to feeling better soon.

(((HUGS))) I hope she feels better. Its so hard to recognize when they are in pain or sick at that age. I remember countless visits to the Dr. with DD at that age because I could never tell. She was never sick thank God (maybe a few very minor ones) but I was very leary about every movement she made. The joys of being a first time Mom, i guess LOL!

She ate well for the first time in days and fell asleep. I was able to put her down in her crib without her waking and crying. Melissa hit the nail on the head. It is hard to tell when something is wrong. With my first, I had him to the doctor every time I thought there was even the slightest problem. I'm a little more experienced now, and waited with Helen. I should have brought her sooner ... Then again, sometimes they can't see the infection right away. They probably would have sent me home and I would have been back in a few days anyway.

My son is just getting over bronchitis. I thought she'd caught it from him because she has a wicked cough. Luckily her lungs are clear...

Thanks ladies, its so nice to have someplace to just talk about these things.

Robin was on antibiotics at two weeks for an ear infection. I think the doctor was being cautious--he said the ears "look a little pink". That was at his 2 week checkup. We didn't have a clue (which was normal for my kids--I usually didn't have a clue they were sick other than a mysterious fever--they never ACTED sick! lol). Robin ended up with two sets of tubes--at 4yrs and at 6 1/2yrs. Hope your little one is feeling better soon. {{{{{Ame &Helen}}}}}

Im sorry Helen was sick . Its so hard to see them sick as newborns.
Faith had a cold for a weeks time. I brought her in, but thankfully ears and lungs were clear. It was her first cold at 8 weeks..
I hope Helen is feeling better soon/
