Took DSD(17) up to West Virginia University last Friday. Honor's Day...by invite only! :):):) I really wasn't looking forward to it. The college is 3 hours away and the thing started at 9am. Not enough funds to go up and stay in a hotel the night before. So we left around 5:30am. (That was fun!)I'm really glad I went though. I told her when it was over and we were on our way home that it made me really sorry that I didn't go to college cuz it looks like A LOT of fun. It's a really nice campus with A LOT of activities to fill up any unused time. They have new rec center I told DSD I could simply live there!! And you should see the way these kids eat!!! I should have it so good. No wonder college is so expensive. It's not the classes....it's the food!
The week before we went DSD was telling me she wasn't sure she wanted to pursue the Honor's program because she was worried about keeping her grades up (she's already taking 3 college classes this year....she graduates in June....and is having a hard time as it is) but after hearing she would only be required to take one honors class per semester and then seeing the honors dorm she has decided that she can handle it! :) I think it was the dorm that got her. It's the only one that is air conditioned and carpeted. It's also across the street from Fraternity row. HMMMMM!!! The whole town is on a hill though and walking will definitely give you nicer looking legs! Our guide said you can tell the freshman from the sophomores by their calves. LOL!! But we had a really nice day together. The drive wasn't too bad...we ran our mouths the ENTIRE way! :) I certainly hope that her sisters and I can have that good of a relationship in a few years when they get older! I have hope! DSD-17 absolutely could not stand me about 3 years ago!! :)

Ahh you sound happy and I was smiling reading it.

My oldest goes to the University of Alabama and I love it there! I loved school and I am so happy he loves too.

Good luck to ya'll.

Sounds like a very nice college and sounds like you enjoyed taking her:)
I only had to attend one open house, My DS had his mind set on Shippensburg University, which is 2 1/2-3 hours from us, he applied to it and got accepted. He started his freshman year this month and loves it!
DSD's can be tough, I have one thats going to be 21 next Thursday and we do get along but it was a long time before we did. And DH and I have been together for 14 years.
Best of luck to your DSD in whatever college she attends.

That sounds like a lot of fun. I went with my sister to all of her college open houses, orientation, parents' days and it was so much fun. I'm so glad that your dsd and you are enjoying your relationship. It sounds great!

Wow. Your post made my day. I am taking my step daughter to KSU this weekend. It is family weekend and they are offering Seniors in HS a seminar on preparing for college life. I am also not a college grad and have never attended a large university like Kansas State.

My "step" daughter and I have been close for several years now and seeing her leave is going to kill me next fall but I know in my heart this is what every 18 year old needs... their one chance to fly!

Thanks again
