3's????

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive July-December 2004: 3's????
By Emily7 on Monday, September 20, 2004 - 07:24 pm:

DS is 2 1\2 years old & lately he has been whinny. He gets hurt feelings over the smallest of things & it just breaks my heart when he says he is sad or I hurt his feelings. He cries over little bumps that normally he would laugh about. Is this the start of the 3's?

By Tink on Monday, September 20, 2004 - 08:00 pm:

YES!!! That is exactly what my dd is doing and it started almost exactly on her 3rd birthday. I haven't figured out anything that seems to help but we try to talk about how she is feeling and give her more language to use when she is upset. Good luck! I know I can use all the luck I can get right now.

THAT is exactly what I have been dealing with for the last few days. My middle (who turned 3 at the end of August) has been crying for no reason, it is driving me nuts. He has great communication skills. I have been sending him to his room and ask him to stay until he is done but at the rate it is going he will be in there most of the day.

I am glad I am not the only one. I is driving me nuts.

This happened to my cousin, but it didn't last too long. His parents kept telling him whenever he was whinning, that they can't understand him when he talks like that, and his tone would immidiately change. HTH:).

They would also tell him that when he is ready to talk and not whine, they would listen.

My Alissa who will be 4 next week has been like that for a couple of months now, but is getting better now. Hopefully the 4's will be easier.
Good luck it does drive you crazy, but as I can tell now they do grow out of it:)

Yes.

With both my girls, the twos were not so bad, but the threes WHEW! Here come the power struggles, temper tantrums (WHY do they always do that in public?) potty accidents, tasting mud, eating salt (spilled from the salt shaker and licked up with little fingers)! etc.

I swear, when mine where going through the 3's I was afraid to go to the bathroom because I never knew what I might find when I came out...can't leave them alone for a minute!

But it is a cute age too. Some of the funniest things they ever said they said when they were three:

"How does Auntie fit into the telephone?" (asked after a conversation on the phone)

"Why does God live on a cloud?"

Child: "Why does it rain?"

Mommy: "Because the plants and animals outside get thirsty so God makes it rain for them to have something to drink."

Child: "Then, why doesn't God make it rain apple juice?"

"Are clouds made of ice cream?"

"How do you make water?"

"Mommy, will you cook me some ice?"

"When you close a door, who lives on the other side?"

"Peanut butter tastes good on EVERYTHING!"

"Will I grow a tail like Sonic?" (our dog)

(After Granny's trip to the Beauty Shop)

"Granny, why does your hair look nervous?"

I can go on and on.

I write them down and most of them come from the year the kids were 3.

Enjoy!
AJ

I swear my dd changed on her third birthday and then changed back on her 4th. LOL It was a very challenging year to say the least. 2 was nothing compared to 3!!
