It was just awful. The nurse came in with the shots(3) and brought another nurse along. My little angel was sleeping at this point. Then the second nurse grabbed his legs and told me to hold his arms down. Poor baby opened his eyes and they were filled with fear. He didn't know why moma was holding him down. So then they gave him his shots and I talked to him and kissed his little cheeks through the whole thing. I hated it the whole time. And he just screamed and screamed. Whats worse is I didn't realize it was going to happen today. My mom new but chose not to tell me how terrible it was going to be.
On the upside he weights 12lbs, and is 241/4 inches. He has really grown, he was born 6lbs 4oz, and 19 inches long. Anyway that was our bad day together, just wanted to get it off my chest.

(((Theresa))) I hate it when I have to take my dk in for shots. I promise it is worse on you than on him :).
He is growing really well.

{{{HUGS}}} BTDT with both of my kids. It does get easier as they get older. It helps to give them Tylenol right before you leave for the doctor's office.

Wow, my pediatrician was so gentle and nurturing, as was most of her support staff. They were always very calming and gentle when giving immunizations. That doesn't stop your child from crying or being afraid, but the entire approach is totally different.

{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}} to both of you.

I understand how you feel. We had "get the shots" day recently because the kids had to go back to school. Kind of an ironic story:

My seven year old, who remembered shots and remembered that they hurt, fed into her fear and cried with anxiety before she got her shot and then, afterwards, didn't cry much at all!! And she said that when she is 14 (booster shots, yes, she asked the ped. when she would have to get another shot....) she would remember that they are not as big a deal as she thought.

However, my four year old, who was going to "be brave" and did not give us any trouble at all before her shot. Had to have two shots into her leg muscles and felt betrayed by the office staff, nurses, the pediatrician and her Mommy. Left the office crying, "WHY did you do THAT to ME? I thought the doctor was a NICE FRIEND." Tears, the whole thing, really pitiful. I tried to explain to her but she wasn't taking any attempts at apologie/explanations on my part. No shiny band aids, no explanations of "mumps" (that is why we get the shot) I was DIRT in her world and so was everyone connected with her getting that shot!!! We went to Wendy's and both the kids got Frostys for being so "brave".

What a day!!! AJ

My big kid needs a tetanus booster! I need to take care of that one of these days! She's 15. The 15 yo got hepatitis B shots when she was in 6th grade. The younger dd got heb B shots before kindergarten, so she didn't have to get heb B shots at school, when she was in 6th grade last year.

HUGS to you. The first shots are always the hardest. Give Tylenol before and for a day or two after. It helps. Your child will never remember the shots, and having two nurses give them at once is better than one at a time. My son had all his shots that way and has not ever had a problem with going to the doctor's office. He actually likes going.
I'm debating now wether or not to get him the chicken pox immunization. He's now old enough to really understand and remember the pain of the shot ...
If I do, I guess I should talk to him about it first to let him know what he's in for.

Oh, I always dreaded taking DD in for her shots! ((HUGS)) It is awful to hear them cry. The Tylenol does work wonders! We were lucky this time. There were no shots. :)

I can totally sympathize, it's always a rough experience with my kids!! Hope you are both feeling better!!
