Tub safety for 12mo

Moms View Message Board: Parenting Discussion: Archive July-December 2004: Tub safety for 12mo

Hey there -

Any bathtub safety tips for a 12mo? We just switched from the blow up tub (sprung a leak) to the real tub tonight and my active 12mo boy wanted to stand up, turn on the faucet, etc. We are going to buy a faucet cover tomorrow, and I know not to leave him unattended... but what about all the standing and wanting to turn on the water?? Perhaps when the initial excitement wears off....:0)

BTW - I was soaked - had to change my shirt and shorts! At least he had fun!

LOL! I still get soaked when helping DD (6) wash her hair!

At that age I put the kids in a rectangular laundry basket in the tub. Not as slippery and kept them somewhat contained. They held onto the side of the basket if/when they stood up. To keep them preoccupied - BATH TOYS! Toy boats, squirters, foam letters and numbers that stick to the wall, etc..

I agree with the bath toys. I just always told Joe "NO!" in a firm voice & helped him to sit back down. I also sit beside the tub where he can not get to the faucet area with out going past me.
I also turned down my water heater so that it won't scald him.
